Contained within the Code of Conduct.

“Any link pertaining to affiliate links, self-promoting links including YouTube channels, crowdsourcing, or fundraiser links of any kind are not permitted without prior approval by the staff. This includes personal fundraising through GoFundMe, Patreon, etc. This applies to any fund raising means as well; such as raffles, lotteries, etc.

Fundraising accounts should be for legitimate needs (mainly life/safety contributions. House lost in fire, medical care, etc.) and must have prior approval from the TW staff. The reasoning for this is the staff have recently noticed someone create a "GoFundMe" account at the reasoning of "Saw another TW member doing it so I figured what the hell why not lol." This is NOT a GoFundMe forum and we are not about asking for handouts.“

Because "at their own discretion" involves flagrant violations of the community behavior standards they are enforcing. This isn't the first, and I'm sure it won't be the last, time we see it.

This should have been a DM to the offending member for details. Not a swath of deleted posts and bans. It's not like someone with 3 posts was spamming links.

Or the offending member could have started the thread with the staff to discuss this instead of ignoring what we have in place.

You have your view on the matter and we have ours. You have an expectation of an apology and hate to disappoint but you’re not getting one.

Also @Arcticelf the Northeast isn’t treated any differently than any other region or have a target on its back by us.

At least the BS threads here aren’t versioned like a sun baked state in the southwest.

Sure. He should have. And I'm pretty sure that a professional response from a mod would have gotten an apology and an explanation from any of the members involved.

But that didn't happen, and the rest went predictably.

And rather than thinking about how to better take care of your product, you've investigated yourselves and found nothing wrong.

So how does a member 'start a thread with Staff'? Should they start by the title 'Baby Violet Needs Help', explain situation, then ask for staff approval before including a link to GFM? My intent with this post is to clear procedures up so we do not go through this again. Just a thought.

If you scroll to the bottom of the forum there is a “Chat with Staff” area where only the OP of the thread and The moderators/admin can view and respond.

I can't speak for their jackassery here, so I won't.

And I'll be clear, I have no problem with the "family friendly" approach taken to content here. Not the banhammer for repeat violations.

My problem is initial responses to minor violations that escalate quickly. Particularly when the mod in question is behaving just as poorly as the member(s).

If you go to the forum drop-down box all the way on the bottom is a specific area titled “chat with the staff“
You can start a thread in there that is only visible to the moderators and very likely you will get an immediate response from whoever happens to be available at the time.

This is the best way to get our attention. If we are online and a thread gets started we receive an alert and go check it out. If we aren’t online on TW, when we do get on we’ll see the notification.

I think the point is that this wasn't meant to be a violation of the COC. Yes, technically there is a policy and I understand why. Originally this was in violation of that. No argument from anyone that the mods should have been notified before the original post. The issue is how the policy was enforced. There are professional ways to handle things, and as a moderator for a website I think that is the expectation. In order to prevent an over-reaction maybe having a few mods discuss an issue instead on one person being the deciding factor. That takes away and personal grudges that may be part of the decision making process.

If comments weren't directed to a mod, then this wouldn't have gotten any attention as ribbing is part of any online community. I'm not saying you should be pincushions for any bitches and complaints, but the banning was personal in the wording. "You don't get to tell a mod to take the COC and leave." It is an opinion, mods shouldn't get butthurt and ban every time someone doesn't agree.
