2" lift using Bilstein 5100s in the front, OME in the back. Off Road bumper with winch hookup, Sherpa 167 Petrol Snorkel.
Hey Guys, I am going to be adding a HiLine Series bumper as well as a winch to my 2016 Tacoma TRD. Total weight of the bumper and winch is somewhere in the ballpark of 150lbs give or take. now when installed, the front crash bar is removed, so that brings the added weight to somewhere around 130lbs. My question is, what spring do I go with? The OME 888's say they are for a bumper or a winch only, but most steel bumpers weigh 150lbs plus. Anyone have a similar setup that could point me in the right direction?

Also, if anyone has the spring ratings for the 888's and 886's that would be great to.

    Thanks!1a1a.jpg

I’ve got a similar weight setup, with an SSO Slimline bumper and winch, on 888’s. It dropped my front end more than I wanted for sure, but it rides so nice I’m afraid to change to the 886’s. I may end up putting a small top plate spacer on. The 888’s will work, but if you ever plan on adding skids or dual batteries in the future, I’d go with the 886.

I would go 886's. I had 888's and when I put my bumper and winch on I was at about a 1/2" lift. Granted my bumper setup is about 200#, but I think 888's are a little soft for 3rd gens anyway. Buuuuuuttttt, you're not supposed to run 886's with 5100's. Interpret that how you would like. All that said, if you have the 888's already then just put the bumper and winch on and see how it goes for you.

I had 888’s and went to 886. Definitely netly need the 886 for any bumper/winch/skid plate combo

Also what size tires are you running? I have 33s and I'm afraid of rubbing if I drop to munch.

I’m running 285’s. I’ve got LR UCA’s, so I was able to increase my caster to help with rubbing. I went from no rubbing at all, to a little rub in reverse at full lock after I added the bumper/winch.

A stock 3rd gen should be using 886's. I am one of many without a bumper that installed 888's and have had significant settling after 3-6mo. I lost about 3/4" and rather than swapping coils I just used some Wheeler's 3/8" top spacers, which has worked well so far.

With a bumper, I would look for something other than OME if you want to maintain your lift.

The list is long but distinguished
I have been searching for the info on why its unwise to run 886's w/5100's and have come up short. Does anyone on this thread know the details?

I have 5100's w/stock springs set on the second notch (.65" I believe). I added a SSO slimline and winch a few months ago and have had no noticeable issues thus far. I will be adding BAMF front & mid skids and feel that I should get new springs. I am considering the 886's but am leery if there is truly an issue with the 5100 shocks.

Edit: Found the 5100/OME thread. Google search is better than TW search.

OME 90021 w/888 springs. ARB summit bumper sagged the springs quite a bit. Will post pics of 90000 and 886 next weekend when I install.

If not 5100s, what's an acceptable alternative?

Such as? I'm in the market for that as I'll be adding a winch as I can get someone to sell me a proper bumper. Race Relation wheels has screwed me on the front bumper for the past 6 months, so I'm done with them... looking for an alternative now.

Not sure, I haven’t found any. I googled everything I could, contacted Dobinsons, Headstrong, wheelers, and Eibach, and the best solution I’ve found is 886’s and top plate spacers. Eibach makes the only 3rd gen specific coil that I’ve found but it’s only 382mm but it’s 742lb, slightly heavier than the OEM OR springs at 712lb.

With 888 and 90021 I had .75 lift with armour and arb bumper I am back at 2.5 in the front now. The ride is stiff the way it should handle. No more nose dive with braking or turning.
