Is that adapter utilized to mate up to the automatic a750e tranny? do you have a link?

I considered using an adapter plate but thought it would cheaper to get a 4x4 transmission. The average price for the proper transmission is about $600 here in Texas.

edit: now im not sure sure looking at it again, seems you have an extra doodad in between that adapter and the transfer case

The extra doodad is the tailhousing from an a750f. The adapter at the front bolts to the a750e.

Well if you know a welder it ain't difficult. The crossmember though is probably the most difficult part which isn't bad if you can take some simple measurements. I believe the 4x4 crossmember is dropped 1-2" (or inline with existing crossmember mounting locations) and is moved 1" forward.

    Will be confirming this tomorrow

interesting... So i would like to assume that the crossmember will not have to be modified since you are using the a750f? May I ask why you are utilizing the tail housing?

I looked into this a little bit more to ease the labor required to do the swap. Trail gear has an a750f adapter to mount a transfer case. I am unsure if anyone has done it using this adapter: https://www.yotamasters.com/shop/transfer-case/tacomafj-transfer-case-adapter-plate-kit-4-0l-auto/

It seems trail gear also sells the carrier bearing relocation kit to push the cb bac due to adapter plate.

    My main questions would be:
    1. Can stock exhaust piping remain unmodified due to the a750f still being installed
    2. Will the front driveshaft clear the a750f
    3. Can the stock crossmember remain?
    4. Can stock front driveshaft be utilized as well as rear driveshaft without additional modifications?

Looking to do this soon, tax refund is looking fat this year..

edit: disregard. I found that the adapter is used for the RF1A transfer case. More searching..

    Let me know
I did buy this one above your post for cheap tho but in case I change my mind I can still buy yours depending on price

the inchworm spacer is applied to the a750e since the tail end shaft in the tranny is longer
Then paired with the the tail end from the a750f I can install the t-case and use my stock transmission

So I just need to buy the rst crossmember to have my buddy help me modify it and I’m going to throw all this into the truck then when i have more free time I’ll get the front diff regeared and buy the TC extended axles for my long travel kit

The Inchworm adapter that Jerez posted is no longer made, and there is not much info posted about using it. The a750e tail shaft is not splined all the way to the transmission housing like the 4x4, so the adapter spaces the 4x4 tailhousing/transfer case back enough to engage the tail shaft, and the tail shaft has to be cut as well.

This is in my case where I did a full FJ trans swap into my prerunner.
    1) no, the exhaust routing is different, I had a muffler shop do the mods
    2) stock front driveshaft worked just fine
    3) no, the 2x4 & prerunner frames are different. You will need to make a cross-member. It's not difficult and was the easiest part to fab.
    4) My rear driveline had to be modified also. I'm not sure if the front drivelines are the same to the carrier bearing but my DL was due for service anyway.

    Thanks for your input!

I understand what is involved with the swap but my questions were directed towards utilizing an adapter but it seems that is not an option.

I do know crossmember/exhaust and cb have to be modified. Cb seems easy as the crossmember holding cb can be unriveted and moved back.

Hoping to order parts soon. The dang driveshafts are expensive.

I do have a question on the driveline, can I use oem front and rear driveshaft when I use fj transfer case or will these have to be shortened/lengthened accordingly?

I used 4wd DCSB driveshaft for my Prerunner DCSB . Think Access Cab is compatible too.

Thanks for the prompt response. I was hoping no additional costs would be associated with the already $600 driveshaft purchase. Going to be purchasing new as it seems finding a used one is nearly impossible. LKQ does have some but they can be of questionable quality at times.

I had my rear driveshaft retubed with a slip joint and front flange to replace the slip yoke for under $400. With new ujoints installed I paid $430 IIRC.

    What hasn't been modified?
$600 is cheep. But you might be able to fine it cheeper. Look for a 4th gen 4runner with the v6. Its the same a750f tranny. Then you can also use the front diff for that vehicle. But do NOT us the front drive shaft as it’s for a longer tcase.

I cound be wrong, but I’ve been told to swap the tail housing on these trannys you have to disassemble the whole thing. It’s so much easier to just swap in a 4x4 tranny.

That's kind of the easiest part, I'm not trying to be a dick but if you need you help finding the instructions this might be a bit much. I get that there's a lot of posts here but read through, you'll find a wealth of knowledge from some smart people that will prevent any missteps you may make. There are links to some build threads that have well documented how tos/installs.

I did consider other models of vehicles to attempt at getting one cheaper. I did notice some differences between models and decided then to just get a 4x4 tacoma transmission to reduce my headaches.

I do recall reading very precise write ups by RST a few years back before they deleted everything. They were very thorough with pictures and step by step instruction. Unfortunately I did not archive any of it. Wont be an issue for me anyway but I agree its more trouble than its worth.
