Can the new 2020 transmission logic be used in a 2017 model?

the processors have different calibration & code versions. you cannot flash a 2017 file to a 2020 truck if that's what you're asking. there is much to learn about this. start by looking up TSBs for your truck.

    Thank you for the answer.
TSB's have been applied. The transmission still shifts like crap. Always searching for the correct gear.
I was asking if the new 2020 transmission shift logic could be used in my 2017.

if you have the TSBs current, then that's all Toyota can do for you. if you want to go further, and you can, then you're heading into aftermarket with OVTune.

Just curious, have you taken similarly equipped 2020 truck for a test drive to see is there is even a noticeable difference?

Ovtune or burn your truck to the ground and put in an insurance claim.

I put in a used ShiftSense Pro for about $125. While not a high end amazing retune, it is 90% better. Well worth it.

Just go OVTuned. I didn't feel it too bad in my 19'. When I flashed OVTuned, it did feel more responsive and doesn't feel like it's searching for gears.

jokes aside, if i had current TSBs and was still asking this question, i would actually be looking to sell and get into a MT. the MTs are so great. and the ATs, if you're already unsatisfied, are so not great.

You can go this route. But then you have to do an accumulator delete, adjust the clutch pedal, and then you have to tell every single person you meet you drive a MT (it's like being a vegan).

No, you don't. You don't have to tell anyone anything. Just enjoy the vehicle.

That's not how it works with a MT Tacoma.
