RAAMmat for Doors

ive looked at alot of posts and i cant see to find the sq/ft. Im looking to use sound deadener on my doors and im not sure how much to buy... any help? i drive a 2010 double cab. Thanks in advance!

MLV is mass loaded vinyl; it's a noise barrier. It isn't intended to stop rattles but rather block noise.

Whip out a tape measure and start measuring surfaces you'd like to cover. Find the area (in sqft) and then order that.

 

I could bust the tape measure out, but i was kinda hoping someone knew it off the top of their head. i didnt want to have to take it apart to measure it and then put it all back together. i also dont know how much to apply inside the door... would anyone know the numbers off the top of their head? id greatly appreciate it. Thanks again.

when I put raamat in my x-runner.

one roll was enough to do both front and rear doors ( a layer on the outer door skin, and a layer on the inner door skin) and one layer on the back wall.

Another roll would have done the floor

Similar for me. One roll for all four doors, inside and out, and 1/2 of the back wall.

 

Jus call RaamMat. The owner is very familiar with exactly how much is needed to do a tacoma.

 

Yeah i would just email them as i just purchased some from Rick at raammat. I can not tell ya as i got enough for a full car coating. Easy to work with and they will have it to ya in a few days.

 

QFT. If you add MLV, do what Italyn says. You'll have to trim the MLV alot anyway to make it fit, so just ballpark it w/o taking the door panel off.

Raammat on the floor, then CCF (or ensolite) to isolate the MLV, then MLV on top. If you put the MLV directly on top of the deadner it's not nearly as affective, if at all.


On teh doors, do rammaat on the bare door panels, then mlv on top of that on out inside panel. then put ensolite on the backside of the door trim cover to minimize any rattling and buzzing from the mids in your doors.

 

How is MLV attached? Do you use a glue or is it self sticking?

 

I hang it with just a few plastic pop rivets. Drill a small hole in the door (be careful not to hit the window) and pop it in. Easy as cake. It just sort of hangs there. You'll need to trim out some of your door panel I'd imagine. The door panel has little areas that contact the door metal for support. Since you're adding layers you'll need to trim/sand off the amount you're adding for it to sit flush.

I also used the stock tweeter mounting holes as a way to secure the MLV as well. I figured they were there so why not use them.

what company provides the best mlv? how thick can you go on the floors before its to thick?

 

You can get MLV from Don at http://www.sounddeadenershowdown.com, or there is a place in Cali if you are on the west coast that has stuff Don recommends as well. The name escapes me at the moment. Depending on your location, one might be cheaper than the other, since shipping weight on this stuff is pricey.

It can get thick quick. I put two layers of raammat on my floor (overkill yes I know, I didn't do enough research prior), then two 1/8" layers of ensolite (per Don's instructions), then MLV. My door sill panels barely snap back into place, but it works.

 

you need about 5 square feet per door, for a single layer, i went double layer in my truck and have three layers over all the holes i sealed. Maybe a little overkill, but i have zero rattles and can crank my speakers as loud as i want to.
