2017 Tacoma coolant leak

Sifting through the thread with this more recent update - was this only a specific run of trucks or only 16/17 models? Just curious - hope I don't have to deal with it!

 

Just brought mine in for a significant leak. No puddle in the garage but loosing coolant a a pretty good pace. Shop called says they can see some residue towards the back of the engine, and needs to dissemble a good amount to find the problem. My guess is same problem.

I had a leak in the back of the engine as well. They had to replace a coolant tube. It had a small crack in it and I had to pay out of pocket which was about $800 something. At the time I had about 37-38k miles on it. I have a 2017 as well.

 

thats not considered part of the power train when its on the engine itself?

 

I was wondering the same thing.

 

They told me because it’s outside of the engine. I didn’t understand that either.

 

The driveline warranty covers the engine which is the block and heads , all the bolt on stuff like starter , alternator and such is not covered under that warranty .

 

Is this a '16 and '17 model year issue? Any cases on '18s or '19s?

 

Does anyone know if the new coolant tube is any different (1.0, 2.0, etc) than the one on the truck? Are they just replacing the exact same part?

 

I’m at 38k miles I just checked the coolant again and it’s definitely LOW, I had been noticing that my coolant level has been noticeably dropping several months back did not realize it had gotten this low. Didn’t see anything else suspect other than the small hose on the top of the reservoir doesn’t have a clamp on either end, I can also see some residual buildup around it

 

Glad I came across this. I have a 2019 Sport and went offloading this weekend. Both me and the gf smelled coolant but looked under and didn't see a drop. Probably going to go out and check it next drive.

 

why do i even hold my breath thinking someone is really gonna “report back”?

 

People have lives and forget. If it makes ya feel any better, no leak as of yet.

 

has anyone done a DIY to replace this? dealer wants 900 but i bet i can do this myself with the right instructions.
