Can you adjust Fox 2.0 coilovers on the truck?

Installed my 2.0s and seems as they were from the factory they were set at 1" when I was under the impression it would be two so now I need to get another inch. Can these be adjusted on the truck without having to take them off? How many turns would I need to get an extra inch?

 

No you need to compress the spring, if you call fox they can give you the measurements to get to the desired height.

I think its 2" for 2nd gens and 1" for our 3rd gens.

Isn't it .5 to 1? Half inch spacer would give you one inch lift? Idk how that translates to threads though. When I adjust my I plan on putting a spring compressor on the spring while the weight of the truck is still on the springs. Then jacking the truck up and adjusting. No idea if it'll work.

 

Also, my 2.5's seemed about stock height as well.

 

Yeah, I saw that, but that is off the truck. I have them installed. I can't believe that you have to take them off and use a spring compressor to adjust. Seems like that defeats the concept of adjustable.

 

F' me. That is what I get for assuming it would be simple.

Just know, you run the risk of stripping the threads due to weight / pressure. The 2.0s are made of aluminum and not steel.

 

Yep! Thanks. I posted my plan a few posts up. If it feels shity I'll just pull the coils and do it off the truck.

 

Spray the threads good with wd40, give it time to penetrate down into the adjustment collar, Jack up the front of the truck so the tires are off the ground, use an adjustment tool or correct punch size and go slow. I’ve adjusted my 2.5 Kings with 700lb springs many times. Just make sure they’re well lubed and go steady, try not to jerk. Remember to loosen the set Allen screw so it doesn’t rip the threads.

 

I was gonna loosen the allen then run it up till the shoulder barley snugs the the lock collar, then adjust. I'm fairly certain my idea will work with the spring compressor

 

The problem is how much to turn the nut to get the lift you want. While it is a PIA to take the struts off again, I will do it if I can get the adjustments I want if I knew I only had to do it once. Still can't believe that freaking adjustable coilovers have to be removed and compressed. I might as well have saved the cash and just bought 5100s. At least those you know the amount of lift per slot.

 

At least they're minutely adjustable. As opposed to half inch increments or whatever the 5100's are. Measure the collar as it sits, run it down, remeasure. Sounds easy.

 

Got off the phone with the guys from Fox. He claims that they are set at the factory to get 2" of lift. He said that the off road and the pro have 1" already which is why I'm only seeing an inch and says that I'm now at 2" of lift over the base model and sport. He also confirmed that the only real way to adjust them is to remove them, compress, and adjust. Obviously I wasn't the first to call since he agreed that this information should be on their website, but they chose not to post it since they figured it would hurt sales. He then went on to say that adjusting them wasn't a good idea because it would compromise ride quality. WTF? Essentially this is pseudo adjustable coil over.

He did say that for every inch you go up or down in adjustment that you gain double.

 

That's every single coilover. The more preload the stiffer the ride. There's nothing pseudo about it.

 

Yes, but Fox is saying not to adjust the 2.0. The 2.5 is ok. That is what is pseudo about this coilover.

 

I thought u said he suggested to, so as not to affect ride quality? Or he said absolutely do not adjust?

 

He at Fox is wrong there is no height difference in the Off road to the Sport, only the Pro is an 1" higher in front.

 

He said they don't recommend adjusting because of ride quality, but specifically not to adjust the 2.0s because of that and the fact that it is an aluminum body and collar. Essentially he was saying the 2.0s are for looks.
