The Main Body ECU can't be seen from the cavity of the removed radio...at least not well enough...

No, that's not the key. You definitely need a sensor for auto lights to work. How else can it differentiate day from night?

@Jgonzalesjr Was your SR prewired for fogs? Do you have the convenience package? I thought that unless you were prewired, it wasn't possible to add the stalk for fog light control unless you pull the entire dash and buy some expensive blue wiring harness to run the hookup

@caribe makaira somehow that doesn't look like as much of a wiring nightmare as I would have imagined. But I'm sure pulling all of the actual trim pieces is probably the worst part. I had to pull the dash on a Mercedes and quickly found out you need a doctorate to do it successfully

Getting there is one thing, wiring is a whole nother doctorate.

For the fog stalk and the cruise control you need only to remove the top and bottom steering covers, airbag, steering wheel and clock spring. To complete the fog wiring the Driver's side lower panel. No need to remove anything else from the dash. The pic is not representative of the work required...:D (it's a 2nd Gen)

Oh, so the wiring is different from the way it's setup on a 3rd gen then I guess. For us, if you're not prewired to the stalk with the convenience package, then you can only do it through the push button feature.

I’ve got mine turned off, one thing about truck I’m not impressed with, reflective road signs and business with light on dark road triggers them on and off and they don’t respond quick enough if you meet a car on a small elevation change.

Are you talking about AUTO HIBEAMS? I think OP is talking about adding the actual automatic headlight function that turns them on when it is dark outside

So then Nitori's guide is wrong regarding non-prewired vehicles?

I tried to add the auto headlights on mine. According to the diagrams the only wiring difference is the wiring from the sensor to the BCM was missing. I added those wires and swapped the switch. It didn’t work. I went though all settings I could find in Techstream and could not get the lights to respond even though techstream could read a signal from the sensor. It did however keep the dash screen from dimming with the lights on in daylight, nice or rainy days. I have a write up on an aftermarket solution. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/automatic-headlights-dei-545t-install.489115/

Did you verify that C11 has the white wire on slot 20 to M6 slot 8?

Yes. That wire is also used for the DRL. Actually spliced into it for my aftermarket setup so that runs off the OEM switch.

No tech buddies at any dealership to assist? I mean if the head unit dims, what could be missing?
