Another year of wheeling and camping is in the books. I find myself here writing a rig review as one of 2020's first posts, for the last couple of trips that we took in 2019. By and large, the truck performed well on those trips In Search of Overlooks in Death Valley and though an unexpectedly snowy trip to the Mojave Preserve. There were - as always - a couple things worth calling out - so without further ado, let's get to it!

Rig Review: Death Valley & Mojave 2019 - What worked and what didn't?

So I ordered some of these mobtown bars that work with tonneau covers:
    https://mobtownoffroad.com/product/2005-2020-toyota-tacoma-low-rise-bed-bars/

Looking at getting an FSR High Country 55" or 63" (links below):
    https://gofsr.com/collections/rooftop-tents/products/high-country-55
    https://gofsr.com/collections/rooftop-tents/products/new-high-country-63

The 55" is 60" long, so it would fit perfectly over bed. The 63" is 68" long. It would stick out probably 5 or so inches over tailgate and 3 or so over the bumper. It does 8" more of interior width though, so could make fitting my pup up there with us easier.

Do you guys see this overhang over the back bumper as a big deal? This is my first RTT so want to make sure I am not missing out on a showstopper.

    Thanks!

That first one you posted had some insane overhang! Bet that tent is super spacious though.

How long is the tent you are running now? Overhang doesn't look bad at all. Curious how much longer that is then the declared bed length.

I'm looking to purchase a tent, and have tentative deal worked out. There is some minor wear to the cover where the ratchet straps go over. It isn't through the material, but work through the outermost layer. I'm sure there are ways to fix this, and a new cover isn't all that much considering.

1.) What are some of the ways you would fix this? I'm thinking flex seal tape or innertube patch kit.
2.) Would you just start with a brand new cover to begin with? Should I ask for the difference to be taken off the agreed upon price?

It is a pretty decent deal on a nice tent from a member on here, so I don't want to beat them up. I also don't want to make a bad decision out of ignorance. Thanks all!

I used duct tape on my old one (grey) for a while before I bought a black replacement cover

Shoe goo might work, idk.. I think these covers are a vinyl type material, but Im not sure what exactly so hard to say what would stick. A patch kit may be worth trying

That is not bad at all. 63" is 68" long, so 8" longer than my bed. But when you take into account space in front of the bed with the rails and space behind for the tailgate and the bumper, I probably am only overhanging an inch or two. I think that is going to be what I go for.

    Thanks!

I used all-weather gorilla tape on my FSR high country (black cover)

Edit: I put tape on the inside and outside of the holes

TearAid. Stuff is awesome for quick repairs like this. It'll keep your cover holding on for a few years.
