05+ DRL Enable/Disable Switch

So yeah, just realized we were talking about the different Day Time Running Lights. I was installing the ones that looked like the LED ones, not the headlight ones. (I have a 2015, my apologies) I did however make a wiring diagram of what I did for the 100$ Ebay LED lights for the tacoma (the ones for the limited edition). Hi everyone.

Finally bought a 2005 Tacoma and want to install DRLs for safety reasons. I received the wire relay and flasher as well as the AOB DRL switch. After reading and rereading the instructions, I got to work.

I wired the AOB switch to the wire relay leaving the blue wire from the switch unconnected (not sure where to connect).
I plugged everything back and ran a few tests: left and right flasher works, all other lights also working.

DRLs not coming on however. The DRL switch was lit which was a surprise because I thought that's what the blue wire was for. Pressed the switch, checked the lights again but nothing.

Thinking that perhaps the switch was the problem, I removed it and wired the wire relay back together. Next I plugged everything back together again and tested as previously.

DRLs still not coming on.

What is going on? Was so looking forward to this to work .

I would hook up a multi meter and see the continuity between wires and figure it out, according to the original wiring diagram if you are doing the headlight mod, the blue wire does nothing, now as for the DRL switch, I'm almost positive mine came with the blue wire already attached to the red, and when I disconnected it the light came on the switch anyway

I like the look of it more and seems it would fit. Kinda want it to match the rest of the dash lights but I don't care that much, maybe I can change the LED later.

Tacoma, 2nd generation, original DTRL deactivated . Thank you got it right, disconnected from M1 harness GREEN / with RED stripe wire (left isolated if needed to be reattached) I made DTRL to switch on automatically through relay/ switch, which was installed before for halo rings

In addition to switch off DTRL there could be installed On/Off Toggle Switch directly in between ACC wire (higher amps needed, not push switch used to run through relay). ACC cames from underhood fuse box.
DTRL relay white wire attached to headlights wiring to switch DTRL off when headlights on, I have HID lights, DTRL are off regardless HI/LO
Bulbs are LED 3157CK switchbacks, DTRL WHITE, turn signals AMBER. Total lenght of LED switchback bulb should not exceed 55-59mm may be too close to plastic lens plate, which frequently burns from regular bulbs...
Third pin of DTRL/ turn signal plug gets attached to the relay the above two wires LEFT/ RIGHT DTRL accordingly to each side "3rd pin"

Hyperflashing resistors are not getting hot while DTRL as only current runs through while turn signals activated ...

 

I used 007s tutorials to disable my DRL's with success. It was super easy. Couldn't find out how to do this anywhere else for a 2nd gen. My 09 came with DRLs, and I like having DRLs, but not if they're going to melt and crack the lenses in my headlight assembly...which they did. And the dealer of course basically said I'm SOL, need new headlights. I don't want to pay for new headlights, so I simply disabled the DRLs to prevent further damage. If I want to be seen, I'll run my headlights. No big deal. Thank you 007

 

Just wondering, The plug with the three wires running in it. Instead of cutting the green wire, what happens if you just unplug it and leave it unplugged?

 

You loose the front turn signals.

 

I just did the disable of the drl's on my 2012. Thank you to 007 for your information write ups. I have to say tho it was a little nerve racking messing with all the electrical in that area. Just get nervous that I might screw something up. But I double checked everything that I was doing and which wire is which and out everything back together with no problems. Knock on wood!!

 

Just completed DRL disable on my 2012 TRD OR with tow package. De-pinned green/red wire from M1 connector(taped and zip tied out of the way). Just on my back, did not remove panel or anything. Thanks to all, I really disliked the DRLs.

I know this is an older thread but I’m hoping someone is still paying attention. I have a 2012 with DRLs. I want to change to leds with load resistors. I would like white light when running as a DRL and Amber only when used as a turn signal. I want the DRLs to function like stock. What bulb would I get to accomplish this and do I need to mod additionaly? I keep getting conflicting info and some say it can’t be done on my truck. I just want working lights that won’t melt the headlight housing. I know someone has the answer. Please Help! Thanks guys

they’re pricey, but extremely bright and quality product.

 

Did I look up the right light? $125 for turnsignal DRLs? It seems a bit extreme. Are they plug and play? Or am I still splicing wires (I saw built in load resistors) anyway to do this for a little less? Like around $65 I like keeping my baby a quality build but I’m saving for sliders from smelmepoo rn so this seems a bit steep.

No splicing required. Completely plug and play and no hyperflash. I used these in my OEM headlight projector retrofit housings on my 2007 before I sold it. If you want the best with a 3 year warranty, that’s how much they are... good luck.

 

I kept buying the chinese brands and Amazon stuff before finally getting VLEDs and haven't looked back since. Never an issue with hyperflash or a bulb partially being burnt out. Should've done this from day 1.
