Is the 3/4 size enough? I know it is for say a Tacoma and a Tacoma. But say I come across a full size truck that needs help, is it enough. I’m worried the 7/8 is too much and will not give me enough stretch.

I’ve got a 3/4” from offroad vendor on Amazon and i don’t think it has enough stretch. 7/8” wound be better.

I’ve used it to tow a bucket truck up a hill with another bucket truck. It did fine and defiantly softened the initial yank.

Go with 3/4. I have a 7/8 KingCord rope and it's too stiff for my truck. Rule of thumb is 2-3x the truck's weight. A 3/4 rope with 20,000 lb breaking strength can be used on a truck weighing 7000 lb.

@3JOH22A appreciate it! I was leaning towards 3/4, I just didn’t want to snap an expensive rope.

It is very difficult to actually break the rope, the 3/4 is plenty for even a full size truck.

You definitely don't want to oversize the dynamic ropes. The whole point of them is to stretch under load, and if it's too thick, you aren't getting any benefit from it.

For the rigid tow straps, go as big as you want.

This might be a dumb question, but what the advantage of a dynamic rope over a rigid tow strap?

Rope is better for pulling people out of a situation where they are stuck. You use the ropes stretch to your advantage. That way there is no shock and and the kinetic energy gives you a better pull. Makes for a much smoother recovery. Tow straps and chains are harder if you are to get on the gas and yank on someone. They are more meant for towing and winching, not that they can’t be used. They few times I’ve used ropes I’m completely sold.

It "stores" energy as it stretches, so it does a better job of yanking you out of trouble.

You start with it a little slack, and then slam the throttle, it stretches, then springs back for a little extra pull.

It's only meant for truck to truck pulls, so don't use it as a winch extension.

Since you mention chains here, this is a good reminder to NEVER use a chain in a vehicle recovery.
