ADS Off-Road Racing Shocks - Information, Pictures, & BS Thread

im gonna lower my front to stock height to get better alignment numbers. You think lubing threads is needed for week old coilovers, especially since I’m taking off preload?

I knew they would be stiff. I’m going for a pothole warrior build since I spend 95% on freeway and streets and only a few hours in the desert when I go hunting.

 

Lowering them is definitely the easier way but yes, I would lube them no matter what. I would lube them even if you’re just thinking about adjusting them.

 

I’m just worried about the dust and dirt that sticks to lube. I guess best practice would be lube it, adjust it, then clean the lube out of the threads.

 

There's graphite dry lube.

 

Alignment shop got it bang on so I’m gonna stay leveled for a bit. Looking to revalve the rear though. Anyone know what the rear valve stack looks like? I was gonna rebuild them myself eventually. Guess I’m gonna learn sooner than later.

 

Just curious what you are feeling while driving that makes you want to revolve? Or are you wanting that for specific application?

 

The compression matches the rebound well. It recovers from everything in what feels like one stroke where billies bounce. But the initial shock is jarring in the rear. I drive a Freightliner m2 for work all day. And I commute 120 miles a day. And since I put the rears on my neck gets a little soar from the commute.
I would compare the feeling to having a tire at 44psi vs 30 psi.

I’m not building an off-road racer. More of a freeway pothole killer.

Also that’s why I spent the money on the rebuildable shocks without adjusters. Once I dial in commute my 2% of off-road finding hunting spots will be an afterthought.

For my use, what's interesting to me isn't actually the amount of travel, but the extended lengths. Looks like they're all in the same ballpark but probably missing out on a 1/2-3/4" of wheel droop with ADS vs King/Fox/Icon. Also, really surprising how short the BP51's are. Anyway, I'm 9000% sure that it is insignificant for me. I love the way these things handle on and off road.

Ugh. I hate you for posting those wheels. Debating getting those. Not sure I'm a deep dish kinda guy though.

 

Hell yeah, glad to hear that.

It's not even that deep. My spindle setup pushes the fronts out 3/4 each side so its exaggerated.



They are a tiny bit deep

Edit: you could also get them in 8" width with less backspace

 

If you could revalve 5100’s I would have gone that route. I guess I’m a tool cause I rode a Ducati 899 on the street and not the track too huh?

I do feel and hear a thud very slightly after a bump and i was explained this is just my spring trying to get back on the ground as soon as it can totally normal

 

Not calling you a tool, just funny and interesting when people buy offroad racing shocks for the street. It's your money so IDGAF. It does affect how these companies valve their shocks from the factory though. I requested more aggressive valving on mine because a couple of the guys who really push these shocks have told me the valving is on the light side. I assume that a lot of that comes from their explosion in popularity in the 3rd gen crowd who do use it on their street queens.

 

I see it as a rebuildable shock with a spring over it. If Ohlins made a bolt in application I would probably go that route. I’m just trying to build my system to use max suspension travel at the speed I drive most over the terrain I drive most. But I agree with the mall crawlers that just want the most lift possible just to fit their 20” MTs.
