ok I enjoy reading but it is getting overwhelming , poor ole truck has 160,000 was thinking about upgrade suspension , so I settled on Bilstein 6112/5160 back down the worm hole , I already hear a hum in the front so I purchased ecgs bushing and prob do wheel bearings since I will be there , have the wheels already 16x8 w -12 scs , so I started looking for tires , brake lines, bump stops, u bolts , UCA jba was my thought and whatever else I missed cause I didn't pull the trigger $$ adds up quick , I tend to overthink a lot so that gets me in a tizzy do I really need all that just to be able to get to my hunting and fishing spots ? wait it kinda does now stock lol unsure on everything to much read.. go with 3rd gen takeoffs ? Bilstein 5100's ? or the original thought of 6112 ?
tires 265 70 16 or skinnys ? what is my local opinion sorry for the long rant

    Head unit. That's it.

I had Bilstein 5100's on my 1st gen and they settled in quite nicely.

As I've started on my 3rd gen 4runner, I can remember back when I first started on this thread and it was like drinking from a fire hydrant.

You're going to get a metric shit ton of opinion.

My opinion...and another insight I found helpful was to consider how you are going to use your truck.

My 4runner will be set up for light offroading, to camping and fishing spots. I'm not going to be rock crawling or doing any insane trails.

I recently ordered an OME suspension and it rides just fine. Added a bit of height, and didnt have to change out a bunch of other components (with possibly the exception of UCA's in the future).

From what you said, you wont need Kings, Icons, ADS, or Fox (or any other high end shock systems) as you wont need the remote resi's or insane extended travel. If I were you, I'd stick to Bilstein or OME and get what you need. Depending upon the amount of lift you prefer, you will need extended brake lines. This is just good measure in case you are out and slide down a rock or something, you dont want to overextend your stock brake lines.

As far as tires go, I have Cooper ST/Maxx and they ride really well, are quiet and dont seem to be wearing prematurely. This is also YOUR preference, and needs to be mated with the style of driving you do MOST. If you are on the highway 98% of the time, it doesn't make sense to have an aggressive AT or MT tire (unless thats what you want.)

If you are camping, hunting and fishing every weekend or so, you may want to pick up an agressive set of AT tires, maybe even a less agressive MT.

I know some guys in the Tennessee group did the RCR last year and had a good time.

I'm not 100% sure I can attend yet, but is anyone interested?

    Wow! Intriguing!

That’s way above my skill, ability and truck build though.

    Is there a route map?

So... hypothetically, let’s talk about if I were to decide to spend my tax return on the truck, rather than use it more responsibly.

I’ve already got some LED lighting and electronics upgrades sitting in the house that will be installed when the weather gets a bit warmer but here’s what I’m thinking:

    1) New Wheels
    2) New Front Suspension/Rear Shocks
    3) Fix the Alignment

The first thing on my “wish list” are new wheels. I’ve been rocking the factory TRD Sport wheels since I bought the truck and I’d like to ditch the spacers and mix things up a bit. I’ve been swaying back and forth between either of these two wheels:

    - SCS F5 17x8.5 -10
    - FN FX Pro 17x8 +0 (replica 17” T4R TRD Pro wheels)

I want to get something wider than the stock 7.5” wheels and something that will fill the fenders as much or more than the current setup with the spacers. And I’d get either one of those wheels in gunmetal. No black wheels for me and while bronze is tempting, I don’t know if I could handle it.

As for the suspension, my 5100s have close to 60k miles on them now and I’m leaning towards an upgrade/replacement. I’m satisfied with the height in the rear so I’d just be looking at new shocks but up front, I’d love to ditch the top plate spacers and maintain the same amount of lift (~3”). I could go with another spring/shock combo or I could be convinced to get an adjustable coilover. Keeping in mind, I don’t really do any serious off roading in the truck, just the occasional dirt/rock trail or maybe one of these trips you guys keep talking about. My biggest objective would be to improve the on road comfort. I feel like the worn down 5100s and OME 885s are a bit too harsh and bumpy for me.

Anyway, hit me with your thoughts and some ideas for the front suspension. We all know this isn’t really hypothetical, the money may have well already been spent.

I think the route map is only received after purchasing tickets. last year they ran a few sections of DBBB and a few sections of KAT plus trails I don't know.
