running a 33" tire as a spare

was woundering if anyone out there is running a 33" tire on the spare thats under the rear box?
Will it fit not sure what suze the spare is

hmm, i just thought of this, if it's just a spare, and your only using it to get back to safety, why carry the added weight?

 

Depends on where you go flat! Out in the boonies, you want a tough tire as close in size to the one it's replacing as possible.

I asked the tire guys to test fit my new 33" in the stock location, they sized it up and said no way - don't even bother to try - but a 32" might fit.

So I'm thinking to order a single 265/75R16 tire to mount on my spare rim.

I don't like the bed-mount spares, they seem to take up half of the bed. I bought a pickup truck to have a bed. If I didn't want to use the space back there, I'd have bought an FJ.

 

There is a little modding to do but a 33" tire(a 285) will fit under there. Use the search and it should turn up.

Yeah IDK if its my new exhaust but I have about 1cm between my stock 265/65/17 and the tubing, I just ordered my spare and I dont think there is any way Ill fit that down there

 

I agree with having a tough tire, but a 31'' tire is only 1'' smaller than a 33'' tire, fit's much easier and is lighter. even way out in the boonies, having that extra inch isn't going to change much...

 

I have a 33" mounted in the back of my bed. Full size spare is the way to go unless you get a flat at the mall! JK

32" does fit under the bed with no modifications.

 

I'm running at full sized, fully inflated Hankook 285/70/17 mt as a spare under the bed. Just hack the little guides with a grinder and paint. I also zip tied up some cut up 4inch pieces of radiator hose on the rails to help with the spare tire rash that develops overtime. The spare just barely touchs the rear diff and just clears the exhaust.

I haven't needed it yet, but when I do it will probably be 150 miles from home, out in the woods, with a full load in the bed....Murphy's law.
