I am very familiar with the VW PCV as I own both MK6 and MK7, and I've replaced PCV twice on my MK6. Porsche's obviously looks different and bigger, lol, but ultimately serves the same purpose. I didn't know that Porsche naturally aspirated engine needed such an advanced/complex PCV. Usually it's a much smaller, simpler valve on NA cars.

Thanks for being here.... Could you show me that wheeling thread you are speaking of. Sounds like lots of good info there.

It's such a awesome design that my friend's GTi has to go get de-coked every 30k. It's now an on going joke that they'll be booking it into Passages aka for it's next de-coking.

Is his GTI direct injected? If it is does it have a intake valve cleaning cycle?

    No idea

I do know that just recently it required a long block replacement because the timing chain tensioner broke. The car is all stock

Maybe it's just a POS and will never be a good car. VW is something i am not a fan of even though they are highly relates to Audi and Porsche

Your friend probably drives it like a Prius, uses cheap gas and motor oil. These are high performance engines that require high revs, high octane gas and a low NOACK motor oil. Almost 80k on my MK6 and it never needed a tear down for a valve cleaning or any other engine work. My MK7 R is pushing 400hp and the engine has been bullet proof so far. German cars love maintenance.

My M3 was the same. People don’t get that just because you bought the car for $13k doesn’t mean you are not maintaining a $60k German car. Maintenance was pretty intense

    Do seat covers count?
Vehicles with Direct Injection and Port Injection do not need oil catch cans. Previously owning a Ford Ecoboost, there is a place in this world for Catch Cans. Luckily Toyota thought a head of the curve with our engines and threw in the Port Injectors.

Thus being said the bold word is need. As a humans we always want something called "peace of mind." If a guy were to do his own oil changes and knew to dump the catch can, there is absolutely nothing wrong with said guy putting one on their vehicle for the "peace of mind." At the end of the day can "peace of mind" be used as a sales gimmick, sure. But there's not a single person on this earth that hasn't been a sucker for a sales gimmick at some point in time. Biggest Example, all of us that own a TRD OR that don't regularly go off roading...

Three years old, 35k miles, my truck. Never had the intake tube off, always replaced the air filter with OEM at 12k.

This oil left a trail into the throttle body and tb flapper.

This is the residual stuff that a proper catch can will collect before it goes into the intake and the throttle body.

Wow I had no idea that much was sucked in. I've also read the catch can will help with driving up a steep incline where oil can pool at the back top of the engine.
