Plastic welding an aluminum block is pretty tough. Gotta give credit to Toyota for trying it.

No, I'm saying he was probably losing coolant or had a sudden catastrophic fail which caused it to overheat

    Latest Update: still waiting.

I got tired of the run around and walked into the dealer for some face-to-face action. The service guy showed me the proposed bill surprisingly. For warranty repair, it would cost Toyota a whopping:

    $13,899.00

Yeah, and they told me if it wasn't warranty, I'd be paying close to $18,000.

At this point it's still a waiting game for Toyota to foot the bill. Because this hasn't happened to any 3rd Gens yet (or so they told me), they had a bunch of factory people come out and look at it. Hard to beleive there isn't a 2016 with triple my mileage that hasn't come across this yet, but that's why I paid for a Toyota in the first place right!?

I wonder if despite the block being cooled a thermo shock happened cracking it when you filled it up

A lot of plastic used in the cooling system in every vehicle nowadays. Even the 2TR had a crack-prone plastic coolant pipe that was eventually changed to metal after many years.

What the F..heck? That’s like saying me saying my honda broke down on me. No one would believe me because even neglected they are a tank ( Tacoma and accord).
I don’t believe you are that asshole that never changes his oil, never looks at his gauges, always runs out of gas, pedal to the metal all day every day,then... hey my poor truck broke down. From your post I take it your like me and use our trucks how we please within reason and do all Required maintenance. With that said. I ppl always laughed that I by the extended warranty JUST FOR THIS REASON. 6year 100,000
Now, this isn’t to say you don’t have a very strong case, but for my it avoids the back and forth counter offers of responsibility. Bottom line. It’s your truck and you know what it’s been through. If your case is legitimate it’s gonna take some time to get the dealer to convince TOYOTA their on the hook for a $5,500 bill but it’s not that far fetched either.

You missed the rest of the conversation and all the sarcasm :anonymous::D

    I get your point though:thumbsup:

Ironically Cummins calls their Commercial Truck engines "Automotive"

The 2.7 has it's own issues. They'll deny all day long, but they have no power and the top end is junk

Glad to hear you're getting at least that much covered but i agree that the whole thing should be covered under the warranty. I'm pretty sure they will foot the bill for it, they just want to know exactly what failed and why so they can send the data back to engineers for risk assessment and if they need to re-engineer anything in the future to prevent this like, oh i don't know.....built in ice chests in the bed, but this is just me being overly positive.
    Good luck!

I can’t believe OP was told $13899 or even $18k That’s nuts. That 1/3 the total price for a brand new truck!
