I have 150 miles on the truck. I noticed today some blotchy marks on the hood... idk if it's anything to be concerned about but it looks almost like the clearcoat is fading or something. I dont remember noticing anything since I got the truck until this morning. Any thoughts on what this may be?

There has been some folks with clearcoat problems in this forum. I'd get it documented with Toyota. You may check your roof too! There is some threads regarding this issue but I don't think I've seen clear issues on MGM color. That does look to be the beginning of clearcoat failure. Sorry that sucks man...

That’s blotchy from factory is what it looks like. Uneven pattern of the base coat. Hard to tell in picture though. Zoomed in the best I could. If it is that. Go back to dealer for sure

Yeah its hard to get a pic. Its clearly visible to me. It doesnt feel rough to the touch or anything. Just visually blotchy. I cant fathom that I wouldnt have noticed this earlier. it caught my eye this morning and i've been staring at my truck every chance I got since I got it. lol

Def gonna swing into a paint and body shop to see if they can just look at it and tell me what it might be. My dealer is kinda far from me, but there is a different toyota dealer nearby... maybe I can take it to them..

Here is a horror pic someone posted of blazing blue pearl with clearcoat failure!

Hopefully your issue just needs the hood re-sprayed...

Crazy timing too because I was going to detail the paint and use a protectant/sealant this weekend. Maybe I should get this addressed first :/

Wasn't there a post about some 2020's having issues with clear coat due to the protective wrap on them during transport?

Yeah ive seen that on older vehicles and mine DEF isnt that bad... BUUUT I dont want to wait for it to get worse... maybe the dealer can just swap the hood for another of the same color instead of respraying it... Ugh idk. Thanks for the info!

As crazy as it sounds hit it with a hair drier on high heat. You will see these Mark's fade away. There was a tsb for this. Ask me how I know.

Ive tried searching the forum for other posts about clear coat/ paint fading but havent found much outside the blue trucks and the obvious clear coat failures.

I did see that post. they said cover the spot with aluminum foil and use a heat gun to heat up the area. From the pic inside the TSB I read on it, this doesnt appear to be the same thing. doesnt seem like air bubbles. just seems like blotchy paint. However, this is something I may try just to see what happens.

It’s due to moisture, temp changes and the transport wrap they use in transit. There is a TSB for it, little heat and it will go away no prob. How did you not notice this on delivery?

Being gray metallic it could also be mottling. Very common in silver and gray metallic paint. Really hard to see in your pics

Dude... it's a brand new truck. Document this issue with Toyota. Let them fix it.
