This is the main thing to remember/consider with a swingout.

Can no longer drive with the tailgate down for larger items, and in my case with the bedrack, to use the bed for large items means the extra step of opening the swingout then the tailgate, same to close obviously.

It's a lot of leverage too on the rear, I recently had frame reinforcement plates welded on and although I dont think I "needed" them they definitely seem to help and I feel a little better about it sending it lol.

Dont regret it at all though. Had one custom made for an awesome price to match my tube armor with a fold down table for camping, so main reason I went with it

Looks awesome on everything imo! For real, I think they look killer on the tacos too, all gens. But really does kind of depend on each individual situation on whether the pros outweigh the cons

Probably the best thing the 4Runner has that nothing else has is that powered up/down rear window.... Wish Cruisers got that

My mom and step pops just sold their pristine GX470 put their in VA Beach. I should've told them to give you a lil break on it. I replaced the whole sliding moonroof and assembly in that thing. Yes everything on sides and top comes out. Yes was a 2 day ordeal in middle of summer drenched in sweat. But was a really cool repair though to see

Did they stop after the FJ60's or did they ever roll down?

I think it was only on the 4Runner and Hilux Surf. I don't remember it in any cruisers or Prados even. Or did Prado get that rear window? Nah, Prado is more in line with GX body right?

I haven't. Most people don't keep a vehicle long enough too, especially if it keeps giving the owner problems like that. Usually a regular type of owner, after the second and third BJ failure, is like peace out and wants it gone

I guess. I just hope she finds some respite with an OEM ball joint. Shiz happens.
But anybody would be nuts to install a lesser quality component and expect the same result as the superior component. I mean it can happen I guess. The lesser may be enough to get you by,
but it'd be deceiving to say that it is the same quality of component.
That's all. Know what I mean?

They had lift back windows like on a bed cap didn't they. If my back window ever breaks that's what I'm going to convert it to.

The star seems to be the most popular but it doesn't do much for me.
