To expand on our Seat Jackers and MMP (seat molle panels) we are working on a prototype that would allow a Twin ARB, Single ARB or ViAir Compressor to be mounted under the passenger seat. We are looking for all input.

This is only possible because our Seat Jackers (seat spacers) raise the entire seat by 1-1/4" inches. Without the Seat Jackers, there's just not enough room to fit a compressor.

The initial prototype is rough but it gives you an idea of what we’re going for. We are working on a 2nd prototype that will include Molle attachment points on the side nearest the door and possibly a heat shield to protect the seat from the heat of the compressor.

Testing and prototype updates will be underway for the next 4-8 weeks so the earliest they would be ready for shipment would be late May.

Any and all input is welcome.

    Thanks,
    Steve

    Edit September, 2020

In final testing now, should have a few test units available soon.

    edit

*Single ARB or Viair will require front Seat Jackers and at least .75" of rear Seat Jackers.

**Dual ARB will require front Seat Jackers and 1.25" of rear Seat Jackers.

The same shit everyone else has.
    I’d be worried about heat....

Yeah that seems to be a common concern. We are working on a heat shield to separate and insulate the compressor from the bottom of the seat.

    Any suggestions?

Seems like a cool way to use the spot, but airflow to cool the compressor and noise (annoyance) are my first thoughts. An invertor would be badass at the same spot.

Thanks we are working on a 2nd prototype, it might be out of aluminum so its more of a heat sink. You could absolutely mount a large inverter to the plate, it will be pretty simple to drill a custom pattern.

    Heat from compressor
We are still running tests on our setup to confirm the max temp that each compressor will reach when airing up several 37" tires in row. Testing will be done with and without a heat shield over the compressor.

    Heat from exhaust
We will check the heat from the exhaust, especially on a hot day with 4low engaged for long stretches (We live in Southern Utah and Las Vegas so it will be getting hot soon).

    Noise/vibration
The compressor will only be on when it is being used to air up tires or to engage lockers. Once the lockers are engaged, it wont cycle on unless there is a leak. Many many JK/JL owners are running similar solutions to include my brother in law. I've sat shotgun when he airs up tires and engages his lockers, its not quite but its really not bad and it vibrates a lot less than any Harley I've ever ridden.

Thanks man. I used that same compressor for the last two or three years until last year. I switched to a permanently mounted onboard setup and I feel like it made airing up so much easier. Not having to wrestle with the power cord or the clamps falling off the battery or out of the cigarette socket etc. It just makes airing up so much simpler.

But I hear you on the portability, two air up my trailer tires I have to run to hoses. As they say different strokes for different folks.

Putting the final touches on the compressor mount. Hoping to get a small batch of final prototypes out in the next 5 weeks.

Really cool idea, I think I would be worried about both airflow and the possibility of it sucking up dirt and dog hair (idk how strong the intake is). Id be into it if I wasnt planning on ripping out the middle of my access cab rear and putting a molle panel to mount a twin to. If you decide to try that, ill be first in line!

The compressors have intake filters on them. I figure if they can handle the dirt and dust of an engine bay a little dog hair won't hurt

I am curious how your rear middle seat Molle is going to look. Sounds cool for sure!

Neat idea, I had a Viair back in the day. It was loud and hot. Never ran the ARB. Interesting concept. I now carry 10# of CO2 which does everything I need for my 2wd pavement adventures. Hahahaha

Thanks for sharing the photos OP! I would probably buy a tray to mod for use as an amp rack. For sure I’d buy two of these if it was intentionally designed to work as amp rack. I’d even buy your prototype if it were offered for sale :)

I think you’d be 90% done with both if you offered a universal molle tray which mounts to the rear molle panel and secured vertically at the front edge somehow. Then an add-on switch panel/compressor plug panel for the side which could be sold separately. Then you can market a combo package of rear molle + jackers + compressor side panel to make it easy for new customers while existing customers with some of the parts will be naturally tempted to maximize the value of their prior purchases.

The more universal you make the tray design, the broader the appeal. As a spot for mounting electronics which need some airflow and heat dissipation, it’s a great choice.

I’m planning my arb twin in the rear driver side pocket in the bed if I end up getting one.

There are a few great places to mount compressors on Tacoma's, we thought y'all needed one more option. They do heat up and we are working on solutions to alleviate that concern.

I'm in Las Vegas so I feel ya on the heat. We will be thoroughly testing before we sell anything.

CO2 is very cool, I've always wanted to try that setup but couldn't get pass the extra cargo. Where do you mount the tank?

Thank you for the great feedback and ideas, good stuff. I like the idea of more of a universal plate, definitely worth looking into. On the other hand you can always blank off the switch/bulkhead fitting then drill your own mounting holes on the base.

    Either way, good stuff!

I'll post up when we run the 1st small batch run for testing.

I would love a version which didn't require the seat jackers, but I know they are required for the compressor hence your design. Still, seems like if you just had both feet mount at the bottom of the jackers rather than the top, all else being equal, it'd be more general purpose with no obvious downside I can see.

    EDIT: Sorry, jackers :)
