I am about to do the upgrade from 04A70 to 04A71....

Question: Does the TSB tune blow away my current OV tune?

No. what it does is it sets you up for the best version of the OV tune, so once you do the TSB flash and then reflash your OV tune you'll be rocking and rolling in the free world

It will flash over your current tune. So like @CygnusX191 said, you will have to reflash a new OV tune that matches the new 04A71 ECU ID.

Do I really have to open the hood and have a battery maintainer hooked up during this process?

I did not, but there is a bit more risk associated with the TSB flash than there is with OVT flashes. Those tips are recommendations. In the TS share, I included the Toyota ECU Flashing TSB. It says that if underhood temps reach a certain temp, the process could be interrupted or something like that.

For the battery, folks have had issues with both the truck and laptop batteries. If you know for certain that your batteries are strong, then go for it.

Again, it is just a list of risks and a determination of how high you want to climb the ladder.

    lol no

you also dont need to idle for 30 minutes before driving

people come up with all kinds of nonsense in here. just flash, idle for 5-10 and enjoy.

Try to forgive me, I admit that have not read all the postings on using TS, but was interested in playing with some simple changes like the number of blinks for the turn signal. I know I need to read more as I tried to connect TS to my truck over the weekend and poke around, but was not successful in connecting. Do I need to do the entire TSB Flash (I already had the dealer put me on 04B13, because I didn't read about the TS soon enough) to make a change or is that just a quick change in TS?

confused, what exactly are you asking?
if on 04B13 on a 16 truck, you are good to go with all the files.

re: techstream, just get a file shared from around here like linked in tonered's sig, or skip TIS , get the Carista app, and do it more easily (changing blinks, etc)

Sorry... just curious what I needed to do in TS to change the number of blinks. I'll have to look into the Carista app.

"Before connecting to the Taco, plug the Tactrix cable into your computer to verify that the drivers recognize the cable. Open TS to test drive the program and pick the Tactrix connection from the drop down menu."

Do not see a Tactrix option on my TS page
