WHATS WITH THE A/C

Why does the A/C come on when I put the defrost on, Its starting to piss me off, now that its getting colder I like to have the defrost on with heat.

 

Almost every car I've ever owned is set up that way. The cold air reduces condensation on the window. Turn the temperature knob to a hotter setting.

 

the condensor takes the water out of the air to make defrost work better.

iturn the knob all the way right to defrost, take the knob off, and turn it one more click right and see what happens.

EDIT: Whoops, just realized you don't have a 2nd Gen, hold on.

 

I thought someone had a write-up for 1st Gen on there, sorry couldn't find anything. I suppose you could do the same thing, just would have to follow the diagrams later in that thread.

Maybe someone can post up a write-up for ya.....

 

I don't get why you'd do that mod.

The whole point of running the defrost with the AC is so it defrosts your windshield.

Lol I know...it cracks me up when I read these. The AC takes the humidity out of the air. People think for some reason with the heat on and AC on, the air is gonna be cold. Wrong. I run my AC all winter with my heat. I actually rarely even use my defroster because heat w/ AC actually keeps the windows from fogging.

Car companies wouldn't make cars do this is there wasn't a purpose behind it.

 

There is definitely a purpose behind it, but it depends on where you live. Some places do have a lot of humidity in the air when it is cold, and the defroster does need the dehumidification of the AC system. But in some areas the cold is usually a "dry cold", and the air really doesn't need any dehumidification.

That said, I usually let my cars still run the AC with the defrost, partially just because it means the AC gets run periodically, even in the winter - it is bad for the compressor to sit unused for a long period of time, it should get cranked occasionally to keep the oil circulated.
