Hahaha. My other set are metal but they were just given to me by someone else and are so worn out we don’t even know what brand they are. Missing studs so I want to just get a new set for this new bike. I liked the metal a lot so that’s why I want to stick with that.

snagged a vintage Trek 8000 off FB Marketplace today from the first owner. still on the original tires. 20" frame, about an inch or two up from what i normally ride but going to use it as a path/asphalt bike. damn nice shape just needs a little TLC.

I recommend the Wellgo MG-1 metal flats. I’ve had 5-6 sets and with the replacement studs, they’re easy to keep ‘grippy’. I bought a set of Chesters based on good reviews (polymer structure) and absolutely hated them. Still have them
Sitting in my garage in their original box.

Took the Stache out today. 65 degrees and the trails are open since the mud has dried up. Who needs work on a day like today?

Always a mixed bag of riding conditions on these trails. My bike was making leaf/mud adobe to build huts out of, lol. With the 2.3's, I had to stop a coupla times to clean out chain stays/seat stays & fork brace....couldn't take the leaf to knobby sound. Also my vented der pulley was a solid mass of mud a coupla times but the tractor just kept on rollin........

Anyone have a Polygon or Ferazzi mountain bike? Saw that they do things a little differently as far as sales go. Curious if they are any good.

Shower made big enough to wash my bikes in. 2013 Yeti 303wc that has been fully rebuilt, 2015 banshee spitfire and a 2017 octane one void. Never really got in depth on upgrading the trail bike cuz it gets beaten harder than the rest so I upgrade as things get broken lol. Banshee is alittle bit of an older photo, now has clipless HT pedals and a fox X2 shock.

Between the 6 and 8 it looks like the difference is pretty big. The biggest things I noticed are the fork and tires. The fork on the 6 is a suntour coil spring vs the 8 with the air spring and bigger stanchion which means you can adjust how hard the suspension is and and a little stiffer/stronger.

for the tires the 6 has some wire bead Kendas which if I had to guess aren’t tubeless. The 7 and 8 look like they either have maxxis rekons or Bontrager xr3s which are both tubeless.

drivetrain on the 6 is 10 speed with a smaller gear range compared to the 12 speed on the 7 and 8 that’s going to help you climb up a wall.

brakes are also way better on the 8 with shimano, the 6 comes with tektro I’ve only ridden Tektro brakes on my first real mountain bike like 10 years ago and they were absolutely terrible, given most hydraulic brakes back then were pretty bad haha.

overall the 8 is a solid bike. In my opinion brakes and tires are the most important part, everything else is a nice to have so the 8 definitely wins that.

my only gripe is that it uses a QR rear axle, wheels will be harder to find if you ever wanted to upgrade. Depending on your uses that may or may not be important

And this is why I come to TW, Solid write up. Do you have any other recommendations or as for bikes this is the best? I’m going to do trails, firebreaks, currently.. then hit some trails etc in Alaska.

    Thanks!
