This is just my opinion after 30 years in car repair. In the 05-08 TRD Sport I would use conventional 80-90 gear oil with 4oz of additive. Pour in one quart of oil, add the additive, and then top off the rest of the oil. My shop serviced one of these trucks for an employee a few years ago and had no issues following the method I described.

Hold on.. You said in your first post that you used oil with additive in it already..

Do all fills with the truck on level ground under its own weight

Ok, so you're saying that your hearing chattering coming from the front while turning but you're not in 4wd. When you pulled the drain for the front diff, did the magnet have a lot of metal on it? Two, did you double check the fluid quantity that you added back to both your T-case and front diff? I'm not trying to insult your maintenance prowess but I followed this link when changing my diff/tcase. Are you positive you didn't skip a step? My thinking is that it could be something unrelated to the front diff, I'm leaning towards possible wheel bearings or needle bearings going out. If it was the needle bearing that would sound like it's coming from the passenger side though.

You don’t need synthetic gear oil, because you are supposed to service the rear diff on your truck every 30k.

No metal, I think it has been my rear and just thought it was my front. I did sharp turns and it was my rear. I followed the quality. Didn’t over fill. Ill keep listening for needle bearing. Thank you for the info!

Man, I started typing that when you had like 3 or 4 posts to this thread, got side tracked at work and came back and a lot of what I mentioned has already been stated. Your rear diff is very susceptible to improper fluid level if you are not sitting flat and level. You mentioned earlier that your diff fluid that you added already had the LS additive premixed into it, if that was the case you shouldn't need to add any additional additive. Let me see if I cant find that post from a user that had similar chattering issues that you are having.

Edit: ok so from what I found, your model (05' - 08') has a true LSD and not a brake imitated LSD. Additionally, I found that some brands of gear oil claim to have the additive included but its not correct. You'll want a hypoid GL-5 type gear oil, it'll say GL-5 somewhere on the bottle. You may then add 4 oz of your choice of LSD additive. I don't have a true LSD so I cannot give you specific recommendations on what additive to use, I can say that I use the Mobile 1 75w90 gear oil that says it has the additive in it already.

This is the 80w-90 that they were recommending. It says only for top off for limited slip. This shit is so annoying. I wish the manual just told you.

That should be fine, you put in about 3 qts right? You did a full drain and fill? I typically will put in about 2.5 qts, then wait about 10 min or so before I put in the last half qt to allow the thicker gear oil to run down the axle shafts before it starts dribbling out the fill hole. If you were to add your LSD additive, I would suggest adding it after the 1st qt to help mix it up when you're adding the additional qts.

'05-08 Sport have the mechanical LSD. The clutch packs will chatter if you don't put the full tube of additives in. Brand doesn't matter.
Either way is fine. With leaf springs, the axle doesn't rotate much when drooped, so your fluid level should not change.

What does your manual say? If you don’t have it, log onto the Toyota Owners site and download one. Google it if you need to.

Ok, the diff additive was the solution! The bottles lie haha. They say it includes additive, but it is not enough if you have LSD. Thank you all so much. I was so worried I would ruin my diff.

Good on ya, glad it worked out for you. Some gear oil have better or more additives included, like Redline gear oil for example. I don't believe that you would be doing any harm by adding an additional 4 oz of LSD additive at each gear oil change.
