I want to snag some wheels, and some 265/70-17 Duratrac's, but the Goodyear site say's max width rim size for the 265 is 8.5, which kinda blows as all the wheels I like are 9" only. Does anyone have a 265 Duratrac on a 9" wide rim they can show me?

I lost track thousands of dollars ago.
That size might look funny on a 9" rim. I got 33"x12.5"x15's on a 10" rim and there WIDE!!

This is a shot of my 33's mounted on the 10" rim next to my stock 265x70x16's

As you can see the 10" rim bulges out the 12.5's

I have this exact setup with no lift for about 8 months with no problems. I think they look better without that "balloon" effect....

Joe, is that a 9" wide rim? The thing is that different manufacturers have different specs for their tires. I have 265/70-17 REVO's right now, and they are spec'd for a 7-9" wide rim, but the Duratrac, which is the tire I want, and in the 256/70-17, which is the size I want is only spec'd for a 7-8.5" rim. Problem is that all the rims I like are 9" wide. 285's would be nice, but I only have a 2.5" lift, and I refuse to cut my truck up to fit tires on, so 265's it'll have to be. I need to see the 265/70-17 duratracs on exactly a 9" rim to confirm it'll be kosher...

I've got 265/75/16 Duratracs on a 10" wheel. Not exactly what you're lookin for...but here they are

They bulge out a bit, but I haven't had any problems.

yep, my setup is exactly what you are asking for. 17x9 rim on 265/70/17 Duratracs. you will love the 17s way better than 16s.

I think if the 256/75-16 fits on a 10" wide rim I should be okay, as that size duratrac is for a 8" max rim size per the Goodyear site...

Thanks Joe...that looks tight! What is the backspacing on your rim? The ones I like come with 4.5, so if that is what you have, then the tire size, and how far they stick out will be ideal for what I'm going for.

ummm, I think 4.5 but I'm not positive... I thought they were whatever the stock wheels are.

    they are here: http://www.discounttiredirect.com/direct/findWheelDetail.do?bp=6-139.7&pc=46403&counter=1&wd=17&rw=9

if you want to give them a call and get some info.

Don't really want 285's...265's will be fine for me. I still want decent gas mileage etc...

5100's all around, fronts at 1.75". TSB leaf pack + Toytec TSB AAL
I had this same question when I was tire shopping. I went as far as having the Duratracs delivered to the shop - then I found out the rim spec for 265/70/17. After researching, I learned the tire manufacturers spec out a tire for a range of rim widths so that the side wall performs as they have designed it to. Due to flexing and heat, load could be put on the sidewall in areas or ways that the manufacturer didn't intend. From there, who knows what could happen. I just know I didn't want a catastrophic failure on the highway from pushing the tires beyond their spec. Call me paranoid, but it wasn't worth the risk to me. I'm all for being proven wrong, which would only mean I can throw the 265/70/17 duratracs on like I originally intended.

not even sure a Tacoma can have a load that large to mess with the tires. buy a bigger truck if you're worried about that! ;) just a thought.

No worries, I'm not removing my mud flaps...hence the 265/70-17 size. My buddy has an OME lift on his speedway blue with 285/75-16 DC2's and DC wheels, and he had to do a bunch of trimming, and lose the flaps...

I have Revo's on my truck, 285/75/16 with a 3" lift and I didn't do any trimming at all. These things have been on my truck for about 2 years and the only rubbing I get is on the Upper A arm when I turn past a certain point. Gas mileage, its about 13-14 in the city and 16-17 on the highway, but I have a heavy foot so mpg is only as good as you drive
    .

Even in the mud, I dont have any problems with the tires rubbing on the frame or bumper.
