I have this question about oil change in my mind.
Toyota recommend every 6 month/8000km for the oil change for Yaris, but it seems a bit long to me, will it hurt the engine if I change it every 8000 km, or should I change it like every 5000km or 6000km?

Need some expert to give me some advises on it

Not sure if you're serious, or aiming for humor?

Following car manufacturers' recommendations should not hurt an engine they built, as long as you use oil and filters of at least the same specification/quality as called for in your owner's manual. Many modern vehicles using synthetic lubricants call for oil/filter changes at or above 8000km (5000mi). (My wife's last few BMWs recommended a roughly 15,000mi/24,000km change interval!)

Forgive me if this has already come up, but my oil filter had no oil to drain at all when I changed mine this morning. Is that a bad sign or something? I changed it cold after the truck was sitting in a freezing garage for a good 12 hours, so I thought that might be the reason. But I wanted to check in with the gang here before I errantly drive this thing over the pass next week thinking I've done good.

I used to always do my oil when life was simple - no kids and a basic fwd coupe. This was my first time doing the Taco after putting 50k on it (it's at 105k+ now), and honestly I'm just glad I didn't accidentally drain the transmission instead of the engine.

Gravity is hard to escape and drainback valves aren't 100% reliable. I'm relatively confident you'll be fine driving over the pass, as long are you properly secured a decent filter and addded the proper amount of oil. What kind of filters are you running, BTW?

    Thanks for the feedback.
I didn't take note of the filter I took out, but it was whatever aftermarket they use at my local Jiffy Lube :crapstorm:Like I said, I'm getting back into doing some basic maintenance but was always kinda lazy/intimidated by the needs of a truck compared to what I used to drive (mechanic stuff is totally foreign to my upbringing and it seems that everything useful thing that I need to know comes from TW or YT). But now I have proper 0w-20 Mobile 1 oil at 5.5 quarts and OEM filter, I felt the truck was running better after the change, more "effortlessly" if that makes sense. But again, the fact that no oil drained from the filter upon removal weirded me out. I did just see this thread, so apparently I'm not the only one, so perhaps with my new OEM filters there'll be some oil spillage when I replace it in 5k miles.

    I found the problem!

I think you'll be happier with OEM filters, which many believe to be the best choice for our trucks. Mobil 1 is good stuff too, though opinions are more varied when it comes to oil types, brands, etc. As long as 0W-20 is what your Owner's Manual recommends, you should be in good shape.

Anyone have the part number for that "New oil plug gasket (available from dealer)" Can I literally just drive up to a Toyota dealer and get a bunch for free/less than $20?

I just installed the Fumoto F-103S. That thing is sick. No oil drips, drops, leaks, or anything. Actually makes me look forward to the next oil change (the first time I'll be able to use it).

I run Pennzoil 5W30 Platinum Full Synthetic with the Toyota filter; 5.5 quarts gets me right at the full mark. I only look at the side of the dipstick where the little nubs stick out.

Edit: I installed the 103S. The shorter one.

The other guy gave you the answer you were looking for, but just FYI can also use standard M12 copper crush washers. You can get them just about anywhere and they are dirt cheap (Amazon for example).

Does the skid plate (gravel guard?) need to come off to be able to reach the drain plug?? Doing my first oil change... Looking underneath engine it is not easily spotted.

Is it possible to leave the oil filter drain line attached and route it so that it is secure for the next time?

Certainly is, but for the oil drips in the driveway.
Maybe route it near the oil pan drain plug, with a stopper in the end between oil changes?

Didn’t have to come back to this thread yesterday as I changed my oil for the second time. Took me 20 minutes! And in between changed all my filters.

I’ma newbie to maintaining my own vehicles. Motos i can work in all day. Correct me if I’m wrong, but it’s this a 4x4 maintenance only? Thought 2WD tacos were sealed.
