Tailgate lock options

I bought a Pop and Lock tailgate lock actuator for my 2016 Taco and it has required maintenance a few times and has now died altogether. It always seemed like the fitment was poor... What options do we have now? Get a new P&L actuator or buy one from Toyota?

 

The one from Toyota is quality

 

Have any photos or pricing info? Can I just replace the P&L actuator with Toyota's and use the same wiring?

 

poplock needs maintenance? I have had mine for 2.5 years and still works perfectly... is there something you are supposed to be doing to it in order for it to be maintained ? I guess I am not aware

No photos but it it's pricey about $170. Aluminum pieces instead of plastic, it's fully plug and play, FULLY

 

Glad yours works but mine has tons of play and it has never worked 100%. Sometimes I have to hit it 3-4 times to get it to lock. Seems like the gap is too big. Seems like the design could be better. I'm ready for something that works 100%.

 

Where did you get yours? With everything closed I'm wondering if I can order this online somewhere. Anyone know where one can buy Toyota's actuator? And will it work with P&L wiring?

I get that. I've done that. I haven't found it yet. I was hoping to hear from somewhat with experience replacing P&L's with Toyota's. Is the wiring compatible for example?

 

This picture shows the part number for the OEM actuator assembly. I don't know if it's available separately from the whole kit.
I got the kit from BAM several weeks ago, $126 plus shipping.

 

If you have a digital multimeter I would check to make sure you are still sending an electrical signal down those wires whenever you press lock/unlock. I own the P&L but don't have experience installing the Toyota one. It sounds like the wiring that comes with the Toyota one is fancier than the P&L wiring so it maybe better to just replace it all again. From an Amazon review:

2. The cable run is a little nicer, there is heat shielding on the portion that is next to the exhaust.
