HELP!! REAR DIFF LOCK SWITCH!!

I am trying to replace my stock oem rear diff lock switch with a CH4x4 rear diff lock switch.
The stock switch has 4 wires, the CH4x4 version also has 4 wires which I know what each wire is on that switch.

This is my oem switch and wires.
Bottom photo is my new switch wiring diagram.
Hopefully somebody knows this simple question thank you!

 

Break out your Meter and figure out the harness side what each wire does .

Wire to your new switch given the diagram you have

Since Toyota Loves to change wire colors it might be good to know just what year your working on

The colors I have in my 2000EWD come not even close to what you have

 

Thank you,, My truck is a 2005 Tacoma 4x4 TRD.

 

Connect as follows:

Harness -----> OEM Wire
(1) Green ------>Light green (3)
(2) Red 1 ------> Red/Black (4)
(3) Red 2 ------> Green (1)
(4) Black ------> Green/white (2)

Note that if you connect the black to the green/white side, this will be variable ground and work with the dimmer circuit. if you want the lights to be just same brightnes all the time, just connect the (4) Black wire to a chassis ground and cut/cap the Green/white wire from the truck harness end.

That’s so funny you just messaged me I actually just got it done with it about a hour ago. It works and looks perfect!! Thanks for the reply and the diagram you provided. Going to take the truck out tonight and see what it looks like at night. I sent a photo what it looks like when it’s on.

 

What brand and where did you get that steering wheel cover that looks sweet!! The fit and finish looks perfect. Did you wrap that over the original or did you have to take the original cover off?

Also, how did you wire up your fog light switch? did you wire it through the OEM relay or did you make your own harness?

Currently having trouble with getting the top led to function properly.

 

so you have to take off the original cover?

 

not at all. They send you precut and partially sewn leather and you wrap the wheel and finish the stitching.

 

I like the fact that it will make the wheel a little bit thicker,,, going to order one now thanks again!!!

Did you test your switch? Currently hooking mine up and I'm not getting anything other than the lower led

 

Not getting any response from the diff or the light on the gauge cluster. Hooked everything up as shown in comment #4. Only thing that is on is the lower text LED.

 

I hooked it up through the OEM harness on the fog lights. I followed the procedure you gave me for the rear DIFF.
For some reason the rear diff switch works perfectly but the fog light top LED doesn’t turn green like it does on the diff switch it just stays red but the fog lights do come on. Both the diff and fog light dimmer works. I still need to figure out why the top light on the fog light isn’t changing color when on. Here’s a photo of how I wired the fog light which is exactly the same as the diff switch.

Strange, diff switch isn't working for me even though I have everything wired correctly.

Also this is what I found for the fog lights. There are basically 2 routes; circumvent the OEM relay or modify the switch.

 

I hooked up the rear diff lock like you said and it works absolutely perfect thank you so much! My last wiring problem is the OEM fog lights. I hooked it up exactly like the diff lock. Wired this way the fog lights do come on when pushed but the aftermarket switch top light doesn’t change color, both lights on the switch stay on. The switch I have for the diff and the fog are the same. Both lights come on red color and when you push in the button to turn on the diff or the fog light the top LED should turn green. Only my diff switch turns green when on like it should. I hope this is a simple question for you thank you so much let me know have a good day!
