I need a smaller rear view mirror

Good afternoon!
So I'm really tired of looking around my rear view mirror in my 2020 Taco. It's too big.

I have seen the threads for using the 2nd gear mirror bracket adapter but I don't want to risk cracking a windshield just to raise it 2 inches. It's just too big.

I also saw the threads and contacted Bob's mirror and he has a couple options but I want something smaller than what he has.

I'm thinking about ordering a used mirror from a corolla or sienna (they seem to be similar in certain year ranges?) and removing the mount and finding a mirror I like and breaking out the dremel and jbweld. I'm that tired of looking around my mirror. It may be where I live with all the curvy roads and elevation changes, but I need to see out of more than 30% of my windshield.

Does anyone have any suggestions or tips to help me? I don't care one bit about retaining the compass feature or whatever else my mirror does. Thanks in advance!

 

I have had the BirdDawgIndustries mirror riser for over 2yrs now with no issues. It certainly helped my situation.

It has only been adjusted a few times since installing. I never just pull on it, I pull and rotate together to prevent a prying force at the mount.

 

it took me a min to notice this but you can adjust the mirrors height up and down, not just the angle. Made a huge difference in not blocking my view

 

The stock mirror blocks 70% of your view? Try adjusting your seat? Maybe lower?

 

If it bugs you that much you could just take it completely off and use the anytime camera mod... Probably will need a new rear bumper cam that faces up instead of down though.

 

I meant to clarify more clearly, I have fully adjusted the mirror with the two pivoting arms and lowered and adjusted the seat. It's the mirror. You just have to sit so close to have a good driving position with the 3 inches the wheel telescopes to be able to reach the clutch correctly.

I don't want to do the bird dog because I'm worried about busting up my windshield.

Also, the mirror doesn't block 70% of my view, I shouldn't have exaggerated that much. My line of sight for anything that is over 4-6 feet off the ground is blocked from my vision because I look at about the same height as the rear view. It's also 10.5" wide. So if you are sitting 18" or 30" from the mirror(whatever distance from my face to the rear view), there's a 10.5" blocked field of view. I'm comfortable in the truck and have enough headroom, I'm just tired of bending down looking around this darn thing.


My point of posting this thread was hoping someone else has done something similar with their gen 3. I appreciate all the input!

Bob's Automotive Mirror was very helpful and he has a 9" but I was hoping someone had done something with something in the 5 " or 6" range.

We got a ToGuard mirror for our daughter's car with no rear camera. It has anytime mode that she prefers to use.

That item won't help the OP, but I can confirm that an anytime rear is a good possibility.

 

This is a weird thread...I guess fitting for a Friday. I've never once thought, damn, I wish my mirror wasn't in my way. I can't say I've even noticed the size of it.

 

I looked at those. They're nice.

I have a wireless camera mounted on my trailer. When I'm towing I suction cup a small 5" monitor to the lowermost left corner of the windshield. All it obscures is my registration sticker. When I'm running it I can look at the left side mirror and rear monitor in a single glance.

It works a lot better than a cheap 100 dollar system should.

 

Its the first thing i noticed when i made the switch from my Wrangler to the Tacoma. Im use to sitting upright in the wrangler as that has a very vertical windshield and the seating/windshield is way different in this truck. the mirror feels like its right in your face.

 

Well, we're probably shaped different and different sizes and probably drive in different places. I love the truck, I'm just particular about certain things, and I can't help it this mirror bugs me bad!

Hey now we're getting somewhere! That's a step in the right direction. Looks about a similar size as Bob's Automotive Mirrors offered me.

 

Also I know this wont help you OP but may help someone else who comes across this.
A lot of people in Wranglers would spin their mirror upside down to get a better view. I just tried it on mine and i either sit to high for it to work or the windshield safety sensor gets in the way but may work for someone else

I appreciate the tip! I did try that and it does raise it but the angle of tilt is way off that way. Part of me was thinking, I've driven my CJ7 with two mirrors for a long time.... maybe I could just pull it off! but I'm not going that route yet lol.

 

You have two outside mirrors, right?

That's all actual truckers have, or anyone with a blocked view rear window.

Maybe take it off and learn how to drive that way?

 

Are all 15,074 posts of yours all this helpful? OP bought a Tacoma not an 18 wheeler
