Yesterday I used the truck to take the the canoe and kayaks out on the river. Were dropping of the wife’s 4Runner at the take out.0AF4569F-187F-418C-9B87-86C46C7175C3.jpg

I have never been really happy with the factory roof rack and basket I have so I ordered on of the cheap Hooke Road roof racks to replace it. I got it assembled last night and hopefully put on today. It seems to be very well made and sturdy, at least compared to what I had. 866C81AC-DF85-48C5-82C1-ED3A590ED4FB.jpg

I also got tired of my chrome grille surround so I took it off and the emblem and am going to colour match them. Primed last night, going to paint and clear coat today.71E9A729-6690-40E3-80F9-ED2A9CF8040D.jpg

Attempting to fix my seat heater cable harness (ECU in picture). Looked to buy a new one but way too expensive for my taste, would rather try and replace the pins and see what happens. My shop has the tools for the job, I'm just lacking the experience.

Anybody able to point me in the right direction here?

The right direction is to replace it all.

You could cut the pin at the board, desolder it, solder in a wire into the board, drill a hole in the housing for the wire to come out, and hardwire the new wire into the harness with a butt connector or more solder.

    The silver ones?

I got them from Davez Offroad.

Then I ground the logos off, chamfered the tops, and gave them this textured effect.

They look rough but they're smooth to the touch.

Label maker is R.I.P. dog ate it. Need to get a new one to properly label the fuse slot and the relay with the proper ID.

    Cheers!

Been a while since I updated, but got a couple things done...

    https://i.imgur.com/W4pUf4k.jpg

Toytec coilovers to replace the 3” spacers I had up front. Got a good deal on them used.

    https://i.imgur.com/XYHLLOt.jpg
    https://i.imgur.com/bqLkPYa.jpg

Shortened the shifter shaft and added 8-ball shift knob. Don’t know how much I like it, but keeping for now. The factory shift knob also looks pretty sweet with the shaft shortened.

    https://i.imgur.com/WoyKzYO.jpg

Added a USB port connected to the back of the new head unit. Now I can easily swap between my phone being connected for the benefits of CarPlay, or my 1tb portable hard drive full of music, mounted in the center console with cable run to just below this receptacle.

New head unit. The first Kenwood I tried wouldn’t work with a storage device of more than 64gb. This one will handle my 1tb drive, and also has the benefit of CarPlay. I wish it had wireless CarPlay, but to me it wasn’t worth a few hundred extra dollars to get.

Update: It arrived, I installed it, and couldn’t be happier. Took about 40 min for me and got a super clean install.

The only “quirk” I’ve discovered has to do with my habits more than the product. I used to leave my parking lights on and use them as DRLs (I already wired the second element of the turn signal bulb to come on with parking lights) and rely on the feature of the truck that shuts them off when you open the door after switching off ignition. I’ve noticed that if you remote start the truck, the parking lights turn on, however if you then turn the truck off, those parking lights stay on until you open a door. Once this covid lockdown is gone, I will contact 12v Solutions tech support and see if they have a fix. Until then, I’ll just ditch my bad habits, or maybe wire up DRLs as they are supposed to work lol.

Looks awesome! My electrical game is getting better and better, but this is next-level. Where did you source the relay box? Thanks!
