That kind of sounds like on the border of going up a ring. Like for me I’m running a 32 with 10-42 1x11 so if I switched to eagle or new shimano 1x12 I’d probably go up a ring. I’d say it’s close but if my math is right a 34x51 is still a lower gear than 32x46

How was the high gear feeling? Sounds like the low gear was fine, which would mean you could certainly do a 34. That 34x10 will feel loads faster than the 32x11.

High felt pretty good. I didn’t really spin out much. The more I think about it the 32 probably still makes the most sense to start out.

Whenever this build actually materializes I may pick up a lightly used 34tooth to see if I like it any better/worse.

    Thanks for the feedback team!

Yeah I use the 51T more often than I spin out. Maybe I'm weak though.....

One of the trail builders out in Eagle Mountain and I have come to be decent friends over the last year or so. Yesterday, I got inducted into the signholder's club.

    New garage flair addition!

If you are 34t curious, go 34t from the start. If you size the new chain/drivetrain for a 34t and its too big, it nice and simple to drop a couple links when you go back to 32t. A bit more difficult to size up; ie its simple to shrink a chain, a bit more challenging to stretch it back out.

We must have missed each other by like 20 mins, dude!

Let's figure out a CC ride later in the week.

Hand me down XTR crank on the ol SS, dropped 175 grams. Considering a new chain, what do y’all think, gold or keep it silver?

I have both for my Pike and ended up going back to the QR for my daughters NICA practices as it is quicker (go figure) to release to mount in truck. They ride a lot! (used to dang virus). The T handle 6mm hits the bed where at mount it. For long days I’ll use the Stealth. It’s because of how I transport the bike really. Getting a 1up soon and will put the Stealth in and never look back.

As far as the rear on my Specialized FS I had the QR version but switched to a wrench style because that was what was on my Spesh HT and I sourced a similar one on eBay. Love not having the handle on the rear wheel.

Seems about right to be for a low-volume product. Sure I could fab that for you, but I would charge you a lot more than $165 shipped for it....

    enough to have fun
haha there's honestly almost no profit margin. Price includes shipping and powder coat for low production pieces that are laser cut, bent, and then welded. And all the hardware too.

Not to mention every vendor is more expensive currently due to the times.

Trust me if i was trying to make money I wouldn't be making these.

exactly. I have a lot included in the price, and i'm not factoring in all of the time I also have into these as well.

I say keep it silver, @Bannerman

As for the 30/32/34 chainring debate, I think it helps to know if you're a spinner. Even in my old BMX days, I never dropped in chainring/cog size b/c I wasn't good at spinning. Give me a larger chainring any day of the week. I run a 34t on my SingleSpeed.
I wish I could find odd size chainrings. I'd probably jump up to a 35t. I spoke to Wolftooth about this last year in Idaho and they couldn't give me a good reason why nobody seems to make them.
