I think your context for your post is if you're adding more than one battery, in which case, yes, I agree with you. We weren't really there yet, it was an off hand comment to advise why a bigger alternator does not automatically mean you will support an AGM the way it should be supported, but yea, I'm in agreement.

If you're referencing just upping the voltage for the single AGM, there's no real need to do that from a durability perspective, the only thing that would likely grant you would be cleaner routing for power/ground, which is something people should do regardless of their setup, if they're pulling down a bunch of juice all the time. :D

Agreed with all of this. The alternator upgrade was in reference to SDHQ alternator with the 14.8V output voltage, as well as the increased amperage. As mentioned before, the 3rd gens don't really have a way of tricking the alternator as its controlled by the ECU directly.

Yea, we're aware of the lack of a quick fix for a 3rd gen's output and we're all in agreement: It sucks.

:notsure: maybe the 3rd gens should start their own thread discussing their options since this voltage booster will not work for them.

I'm looking to add an agm battery to my 2018 tacoma. Will this work to boost the voltage?

Gotta do a cmc first my dude before you can fit that extra voltage in there..

After the CMC how much voltage will I be able to fit? 24v?

As others mentioned, a heavy duty alternator will put out more amps, not more volts. In a 3rd Gen the ECU will monitor the voltage and ensure stock voltage output. The HD alternator will just have greater ability to meet extreme electrical loads more readily, like that from a winch.

No. 3rd Gens will require a standalone wall charger to properly charge AGMs until someone comes up with a different solution.

    Send it and stuff 48v.

Do you own the tune? It would be great if Vf could be used to adjust it when released.

I do, and I have purchased the new tuning software that is required to do custom tuning. Expected release for Tacoma support is in a couple weeks.
