Hey all. Removed my back seat today and am looking for ideas to build a storage system that bolts in. This would be primarily used for camping. Clothing on one side, cookware on the other. Has anyone seen any posts about this from pioneers ahead of me? Tried the search feature, but I'm not sure what search terms to use.

When you say “clothing”...about how much clothing are we talking here?

Seems that's for access cabs, but I appreciate the link and am looking through it anyway.

Not much, just a week or so's worth of clothes for two people. I think some easy access cubbies on that side would be great since the tent annex will come down over the door.

Rad. Rear seat removal is great first step. Are you tooled up to work with wood?

Yeah, for the most part. Buddy has a table saw, which is the main event. I'm gonna sketch up something that includes brackets so I can bolt it in using the bolts and mount points the seats used. Also gonna try to make it in such a way that I can still access the built in storage in the floor.

I removed my rear seats and built a platform for my dog. You could easily take this and build it up. You could build drawers or cubbies on top of the platform as a base. Only thing is you'd lose access to the storage underneath the seats.

Yes. I see. This is a good thing. I cannot help you, as I stuff a few days worth of clothing into a pelican case and leave the girl behind. My only advice is to focus on minimalism and lo tech equipment.

Gonna try to keep relatively easy access to those, but thanks for sharing. Love that you're keeping and using the hinge brackets for this setup

Thanks. Gonna try to stay low-tech and drop more money later on for some QoL stuff like a refrigerated cooler and battery bank. The tent I picked up set me back quite a bit, but I've been eyeing that sucker since I bought the taco!

It works for what I need it to. In your case it sounds like you're going to have to build something suspended or elevated to allow access to the bottom and rear storage compartments. If you want spend the coin companies like this from goose gear seem to offer some pretty cool ideas.

This is great, I love the fact you've used the hinges. I built a platform for my dog but it sits on top of seats. Mine is great that it takes 10 seconds to remove & get your seats back. But... my dog has a long way to jump up and my front seat doesn't go back as far as I'd like now.

I was thinking of removing the seats completely and now it looks like I'm going to be stealing your design if I decide to do it ;)

See I wanted to go your route, but I was worried about the jumping distance. I figure I lowered the height by 3" maybe 4" this way. Plus he has more room and the foam pads stop him from sliding around. Let me know if you decide to copy this and if you need more pictures of how I did it let me know.

Thanks I may just do that but prob not for a couple of months. Presumably if you undo those four bolts and remove the setup you're right back to being able to bolt your seats back in, yeah?

Yep. Actually just moved the seats around in my basement today. Decided to bury them under some other stuff because I can't see myself going back to seats, but I could if I wanted to. Plus I don't ever have to give anyone rides this way...

Any chance you can post a quick how-to on something like this? Exactly what I'm looking to do. But I'd say I'm a beginner with building something like that.. Thanks, looks great!
