Yeah i hate mud too, MTB or Truck. Unfortunately this particular trail gave me no options on the last big mud hole.

It might just be a coincidence.

It could be one or all or none of these things. Maybe a bad belt just failing early coincidentally occurring around the same time as your wash. Let us know what you find out, it might help others down the road. No pun intended.

Im gonna keep the daily liberal spray lube for a few more days and see if it subsides. If not, probably new belt.
    Ill definitely update this

I have a stupid question - are you sure its belt slip and not a pulley?

Suspended silica fine grit, a.k.a. mud, plays major hell on bearings. I'm willing to bet that the action of getting it muddy then cleaning it nailed one of the pulleys.

For what it's worth, I've used Simple Green on every vehicle's engine I've owned for many years. Not once has anything gone wrong...and certainly no belt issues

I've power washed every single vehicle I've owned. Never an issue. I'd get a new belt sooner than later, that belt dressing is a nightmare sometimes.

With the truck running and squealing carefully squirt WD40 with the long straw on the tensioner pulley bearing and it will probably instantly go quiet . If so need pulley .

    Jesus, really?

Those 3rd gens really have that reliability thing nailed down...o_O

Worst thing I've ever had after washing the engine bay is a squeaky belt for a few seconds.

    1st gen best gen! :boink:

The fuck? Nothing happening in 1st gen forums? My truck has been solid bud, i love it, but thanks.

I washed engine bays in my previous vehicles and had minor issues after that. No way ill be touching the engine in my tacoma.

copy and pasted from the article in the above link...this exactly describes what's going on.
sounds like complete coincidence it's going bad right when I washed it
    "
After some research, the only real problem we could find that was consistent across multiple 2GR engines is the idler pulley. When this pulley starts to go bad it can cause belt squeak or load rattling noises. Toyota has a heavy duty version of this component available and many owners just upgrade to that part to fix the issue.

Yeah after reading that it sounds exactly like what your problem is. Maybe the pully was already weak and grit that possibly got into it finished it all the way off.

The only time I've ever had "a minor issue" with any vehicle I've owned is when my 87 Accord had a cracked distributor and water got inside. Something is very wrong if you can't hose down your engine.

I can maybe see things going upside down if you pressure wash the engine bay, but who the hell does that?
