I have been doing some intense homework on what is required to complete this swap for a 2005-2013 Tacoma. This will not be a 100% plug and play ordeal and will require some repinning and the routing of a new wire at the harness plugging into the spiral cable SRS reel connector to the radio or your AWSC-1 module if you run an aftermarket stereo like I do. The illumination also runs on a different pin and will require a repin as well.

All of this is required if you want to run the additional new buttons (back, left, and right) that comes with the Corolla steering wheel. I got a wheel, buttons and a new spiral cable assembly on the way and have already done the preliminary repin/ rewiring work for everything to work so it will be a plug and play deal as well. More to come on all this drama in the coming days.

Needless to say this mod is not a simple one.

I'd love to see a write-up if you've made some progress here. When I bought my 2014 it had some scuffs and a weird stain I can't seem to remove on the air bag cover. I like the look of the Corolla iM wheel and it would get rid of something that bugs me about the truck. Thanks!

Oh man.. the wheel is done. Everything is done actually, but the wiring was mostly where the issue was as the Corolla Z5 plug is different than the Tacoma Z1 plug and it required some repinning as not all the wiring went to their same respective pins.

The rest was cake. Wheel bolts up, cruise control, all of it the same.

Hey guys, I have a question, also tagging @desertrunner24 . My 2008 TRD Sport DC has the steering wheel with the volume and track controls on the left hand side of the steering wheel. What i'm wondering is, if I were to try to swap with one of the newer wheels that also incorporates the bluetooth and/or call button on the right side of the steering wheel, would I have to buy some new interface? my aftermarket Kenwood utilizes the controls now via something other than the Maestro, possibly the Metra adapter. Just wondering if my clock spring, or whatever else the terminology is would be compatible even though my wheel doesn't have the right hand-controls at the moment. for reference, i'm posting a pic of the current wheel I have. Thanks

So when I did my swap on my 06. I didn't have any steering wheel controls to start with. So I had to replace the clock (spiral) cable with one for one with control option
After the interface kit the controls worked. I never even tried to hook up the phone control. If I recall right because that wasn't available from 05-08 models you would have to wire it in yourself.i believe there is a write up in here somewhere on it. I'll do a search for it.

awesome man thank u ! Honestly after just reading a touch of it, I think it may be an easier and cheaper way to go if I just added the right sided controls. wouldn't have to buy the new wheel or eff with getting a new airbag. haven't read all the steps, but that may be a step closer mod ... but damn the loook of that new steering wheel has got to make it look and feel like a new taco.... that may be the ultimate move.

I liked the look and feel on the updated wheel way better then the 05-11 wheel. I just might but a 3rd gen wheel in my 11
