When you do the drums, remember the E-brake bracket and where it's oriented. I forgot and had to disassemble, orient correctly then reassemble....ugh!

Ohh you mean the little lever that I forgot to do on the passenger side of my buddies. Yeah that lesson was learned Saturday. Spent 30 minutes doing the driver and figuring out the e brake because it wasn't there to begin with. Went to passenger side because it should be easy now. Went to the wore wheel to get the big flakes off the bracket and laid it down. Put the whole side together and looked down and say the bracket. Good thing we were pros at the drums by that point. I'm thinking I should do mine while it is somewhat fresh. My drums don't look great, so the shoes are probably the same.

Haha, I'm glad I'm not the only one.
I watched a YouTube video on the procedure and the guy on the video made the same mistake. It was a 2 part video, I watched part 1, did the install on my truck then watched part 2. He never admits to the mistake but he goes back to the drivers side during part 2 and reminds the viewers about the E-brake bracket...

I haven't worked on my own stuff in about 15 years. It is something I'm getting back into. I just can't afford to farm out my work, and when I do I'm usually disappointed with the results.

I used to work on 80s Chevy's. Far different from these trucks, but some principles are the same.

With that being said, im tired of youtube for videos. Does anyone have recommendations for a good manual? Chilton's or Haynes. Why one over the other? Is there something better I don't know about yet?

Agreed. I would accept a tutorial in the '2nd Gen Tips Mods' thread but they only have one for the front disc. I'd trust that over YouTube.

I've always had a Haynes manuals with every vehicle I've owned. Can't offer a comparison to Chilton's. I always look at the book first and them UT for a back up to see some one doing the work for that 'this isn't mentioned in the manual' moment.

Well I went back down to 265 75 16 Cooper Discovery ST Maxx load range E tires so that I'll still have tires for towing but will ease the stress on the drivetrain it had with 285 75 16 Duratrac load range E tires. Nothing but steep windy hills around Pittsburgh and ohio valley region. I primarily use my truck for towing or hualing so no need for the 285's.

Took a drive up to New Bethlehem Pa. to Hardcore Tire and bought these tires for $620 installed. 30 minutes in and out. They are blemish tires but you cant tell unless you look really close (little dimples on sidewall in one area). Trip back down 66 and 28 was sweet, no more transmission searching for gears and not so smooth shifts around 70-80mph.

    20200511_140748.jpg

I don't think it looks bad with 3" lift. Actually like it better than the 285's.

    20200507_161516.jpg

I now have a a total of (7) 285 75 16 Duratrac's for sale. 7th still mounted to spare wheel under bed til tomorrow (2) brand new, never mounted (3) one year old with 10k miles on them better tha 3/4 tread (2) better than half tread.

I’m thinking about getting slimmer tires next time around. Gonna try to cut down the weight

Look at the different tires and their weights. These 265's are the same weight as the 285's I just removed.

In general an equivalent 255/85r16 to a 285/75r16 will be between 5-7lbs per tire.

Yours are 61lbs. My 265's are 54lbs. The 285 duratrac load range e tires I just removed are 54.7lbs.

My registration is good through October 2021 and my driver's license is good through March 2023; I'm just curious to know if PennDOT is still renewing registrations though?

Also, I've got a friend who's driver's license expires tomorrow, and can't find jack about what he's supposed to do; He got his camera card in the mail months ago but now all of the DMV locations are closed, and he's just assuming PennDOT has a grace period on expired licenses...

So if he gets pulled over, it'll be treated as a valid license?
