ToucanV13 Rocks while David K Spots!

As you may have seen in Doug's (4WD's) thread 'Pine Valley Tonight', there was a little sidebar by ToucanV13 (Paul) on making a quick run back to the Welk Trail (I-15 & Deer Springs) which (if followed far enough) goes all the way over to Panda Jerk's 'Drug Airport' (as he named the straight strip of dirt road back there).

I had a tiny irrigation job (hoo-ray job) today, so I rewarded myself with a little four wheeling 'Tacoma style'... and called ToucanV13 to see if he could get away for an hour or so...

HERE are all the photos... in 3 parts. The photo looking back at I-15 shows where the trail begins, just a short bit beyond the AM/PM... See my Google Earth images of this area... after the photos...

For sure...we just got filled up. When I organize runs I like to keep them small. Next time for sure.

 

As you can see, we didn't go very far up the trail to have some fun.

On the images below, the point L4 is that rocky gully climb/ drop where we took most of the photos... 'Steep dropoff' is where Paul left his truck and we went down to see what it was like at the bottom... and decided to return another time to continue on... Paul got a little taste of DAC going down and A-TRAC coming up that dropoff.

Weeeellllll.... We went through no gates, or passed any no trespassing signs... on the road we took... and there have been several posts here on TW of others going in, and also FJ Cruiser videos posted... It is called both the Welk Run or Trail... and Panda Jerk called it the Drug Airport... because way back in there is a straight section of road... looks like a tiny runway.

Yah, I think Paul had some fun... I expect him to be out on more runs...

Ditto for me. I'm right by Pomerado/West Bernardo Dr and I-15.

 

We'll have to make another run out there soon and yes Doug I was stoked I learned pics can be deceiving in relation to steepness and obstacles. That hill doesn't look bad in the pics but in person....well I was being a weeny too; can't afford to eff up the truck

 

Paul we gotta go wheeling sometime. I think I am about to pull the trigger on some new tires in Nov. So I will be ready to tackle some rocks.

 

I wish I could say anytime you're ready. Most times it's sporadic for me lol. I know I can't make any far runs due to costs so drug airport is about it for me for now. Hopefully I'll have my new brake pads on so I can not worry about that lol. Waiting for my buddy to get back so we can change em

 

Well I have never been out there and it's a lot closer to me than PV or CC. I can get to escondido at the end of the 78 in like 15 mins. I am usually free weekends. So just hit me up if you want to make a weekend run. I'll have new tires hopefully by Thanksgiving so I am saving up right now so far away runs will have to wait for me.

 

Brake pads are a snap Paul, just say where & when. I got some decent ceramic pads for about $35- $40, just sayin' most of us are here to help where help is needed ......
