inneresting evening. as prep for today's audio makeover, I wanted to upgrade the steering wheel controls to 2015. I had picked up a set off of TW a few months back. dude had scratched the 'skins' and had ordered new. The button cutouts look identical, and it was cheap, so I bit. Well, looks can be deceiving. Turns out that right side cutout is identical in shape, but actually approx .100 taller on the newer controls, so the skins can't swap, which meant I either roll with scratches or do without. I went far enough into it to test the buttons, and gained no new functions either, so it was back in with the old.

Got to know the steering wheel setup pretty well though. If ever those black skins become available again I may jump on it.

here they are. You can see a healthy 'nick' on the skin on the extreme right. Otherwise fine.

A few weeks ago my neighbor bought a new zero turn mower. The wife and I were backing out of the driveway he had it out and I guess I accidentally hit the voice search on my phone as I was telling her about it. It heard just enough info say..."here you go...zero turn mowers...blah, blah, blah. Minutes later I noticed ads from Lowes about mowers popping up. Things like that happen frequently. And it's even worse if you actually search for something.

 

I miss the simpler times.
When you were lucky to have one coffee holder in your car, but had 5 ashtrays, and that was pretty much it to distract you.l quit smoking years ago, but l still miss the simplicity of hopping into a vehicle and l controled everything that it did.

 

I'm figuring if the shop couldn't get the cam bolts to budge they will end up being cut out of the LCA's. I might as well just use these for another 30-40k, wear out the tires i don't like and keep an eye out for some used LCA's from one of the many TW modders.

I've taken a 6 month and an 8 month "vacation" before but both times I couldn't get them to lay me off... It's great!

 

Just wait until you get your next vehicle. Tacomas are about as bare bones/non-electronically controlled as you can get...

 

Yeah, I've had that happen without even bumping the voice search, just chatting with the wife. Much like HAL, our phones are always listening...plotting...

 

Maybe I'll just do this next week. My rotors arrive then, so the timing is serendipitous. Thanks for the write-up
