So I just got my truck back after having a fair amount of work done to it. New wheels (17" 5th gen 4runner sr5), a set of 265/70/17 Nitto G2s, and a handful of other things done. My ko2s I took off were pretty old, worn unevenly after terrible rotating habits and close to 55k miles. So I assumed when I put a fresh set of g2s on it would be whisper quiet in comparison. Well when I picked the truck up they said that both my front wheel bearings and one rear was shot. I didn't think that sounded right cause I never heard the "grinding" noise of wheel bearings. But when I go to drive it home there is still a deep humming that I had assumed was tires before these new ones went on. So is a drone/humming at 30+ sound like it could be wheel bearings?

I'm going through something very similar. Many people think its tires, but if you imagine some sort of cross between tire noise, burring, and a hum, then it could be a bearing. If they are truly "shot," then you can jack up the truck, grab the top and bottom of the tire and try to shake the tire. If it moves, probably a bad wheel bearing. Grabbing the sides of the tire also works, but you could feel some give even with good bearings if you have bad tie-rods or otherwise in the steering. I just did the rear end on my '08 TRD OR, and now its time for the front end.

Wiggling the wheel won't always tell you anything. A better way is to spin the wheel by hand while grabbing the knuckle. Any roughness or growling felt through your hand is a bad bearing

Question then. I'm gonna order the marion hub assemblies, do the hubs come as everything you need or is there a seal I have to get with it?

Honestly, just change the front ones yourself. It’s very easy to do and can cost as little as $200. That’ll narrow it down for you.

I plan on doing the front ones for sure the back I'll have to do some diy researching. Never done bearings like that before

The rears may require a trip to a machine shop so they can press the bearings/retainers on correctly

I think there is a little dust o-ring between the whole assembly and knuckle sometimes, might not be critical. All the seals that keep dirt out of the actual bearing should be installed during assembly when the hub gets pressed into the bearing.

Call him up and ask him

I took the truck to a mechanic for the rears.

yesh the rear ones you’ll have to go to a mechanic. But if you replace the front ones and it fixes the noise, then no need to check on the rear ones. So there’s at least a shot
