I gotta find time to take mine in for it. Unfortunately it's hit and miss when it does it.

Well, until 2.0 makes it through testing and is released for all ECUs, I have to say that 19800 2.0 beta keeps settling in nicely. I used to get anywhere from 13 - 19 mpg on the stock tune, usually about 17 overall. Nowadays, it's consistently 16 - 22 mpg, usually about 20 overall.

I have 265/75/16 Duratracs and an ARE MX topper, but everything else is stock. The beta just seems to keep getting better and better.

Although, I am definitely excited to get ECT back with the final.

You're gonna want the gear tune indeed. Guys who ran stock gear tuning from ovtune weren't seeing the benefits from both as much as they would like. Some were still hunting gears a bit. When Matt released gear tunes. Even a 4.88 tune for some guys on 5.29 loved it way more. You're gonna want the gear tune when becomes available

Good to know. I’m going to tune it for the right application once it comes available. But for now I’ll be driving without the correct tune. Thanks for the heads up

You’re good to go.. I have 5.29’s and I’m running the stock 19770 tune. It runs fine. Much improved over stock gears.

I was wondering about that. I am heading to Cashmere, WA (Nitro Gears) on Thursday for 5.29 install and have the May 17th 2.0 drop installed. (04B04+2.0+Base+87+OL+31-33+T.p5f) Cant wait for the final, final, 'This is for real, We mean it this time', FINAL drop! (j/k)

Let me know what you think. I decided to go 5.29 as well (still thinking I should have done 4.88 in my head) but was also going to head over to Cashmere for the install!

@StormTroop425 - I will let ya know. One thing I have verified in all my research (and talking with people), is that almost everyone with 4.88's wishes they went with 5.29's. And anyone with 5.29's NEVER says they wished they had 4.88's. Yes, 4.88 is the sweet spot for daily driver and a huge update for general towing, slight increase in MPG, etc. ( See Nitro Video) But, the 5.29's really cover a broader range of daily driving and towing improvement especially if you start weighing down the vehicle with gear and accessories. The only con with 5.29's, I think the max speed is ~85Mph but that isn't that big a deal and they also have a very slight 'humming' sound at like 35-40mph but most people don't even notice it. As they break in, it goes away. I am sure you already read through this but the 4.88 MEGA Thread also has some good debates - https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/the-4-88-mega-thread.511967/

4.88 OR 5.29 is a massive improvement and you can't go wrong with either! Add OVTune and its just additional improvement!

@Tacodog - You are looking at $3400 OTD ($1700 in parts and rest labor) for 5.29's Front and Rear with (OEM) E-Locker done at JustDifferential/Nitro-Gear in Cashmere. *OR* you can do the ECGS swap 3rd member & Clamshell with Nitro, ECGS or Yukon was ~$1,862 after $1,900 in core charges which you get back. If you know what you are doing OR can find a reputable shop to install, ECGS Core Swap is not a bad way to go. Cashmere close for me and I was already planning a trip, so Nitro was easy for me. PM me if you have any questions.

So in the deserts of California, Nevada, Utah and Arizona just leave the gas pedal to the floor. I kid

Almost.... last year on the 15 North of St. George the semis were going 80+.

That's because down in that area on I-15 northbound/southbound lanes the speed limit is 80 MPH.
