There are an extremely limited number of shocks available as "drop in replacements". This is a topic beaten to death time and time again - https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/best-rear-shocks.663379/

You want quality? You want a reservoir? You want serviceable?

Order some custom shocks directly from King, or custom from ADS.

Hi, guy that made the shock relocation thread here... Anywho I'd listen to these folks here, a stock leaf pack cycles maybe 8.5" total. Get the Old man emu stock height rear shocks if you don't trust the Bilsteins. It a pretty capable truck stock, I don't think with slightly upgraded shocks you'll even come close to using it's full measure of ability. If relocating is beyond your ability most of the stock location aftermarket shocks are just replacements or mild upgrades like Billies and OME. A reservoir isn't going to increase longevity over a monotube or gas charged shock, sorry, that's not what they're for. They're for oil capacity and reducing the amount of equipment in the main body so you can cycle more travel out of the location. Race shocks like Icon, Fox, King, ADS.... They don't last anywhere near as long as stock style replacements, they're not meant to and they never will. They're the candle that burns twice as bright... They perform better, but for a shorter time. I wouldn't waste the money on putting them on the stock location only to have to rebuild them for doing stock duty. If the truck is your daily and money/time is tight, you're gonna have just another thing to worry about.

But youre not concerned about travel? If you read my entire spiel and that's all you got I'm sorry I can't offer you anything more. At least I'd prefer not to.

It happens; I have 2 sets of 2.5 coilovers for my truck in less than 1 year of ownership....bought new.

If you rush things, you'll spend more money than you need to.

Nothing wrong with the Icons as they're great and a lot of members use them. I just hoped you actually listened to my advice regarding Fox 2.0 universal shocks as I have some experience with them. Not sure why you insist on Fox...

Dude if you have custom Deavers, then you need to take apart your leaf pack, and flex your rear out.

From there, measure your collapsed and extended lengths and get the appropriately sized shocks for said leaf pack.

You'll most likely need to incorporate extended bump stops as both the collapsed and extended lengths will increase; last thing you want to do is bottom out an expensive shock and blow it out.

Buying a "drop in replacement shock" is something I'd advise against if you're running a custom leaf pack.

Avid rider of fox Mtb. They are the best in the industry. I did listen. My front end is fox and icon and I’d like to keep it consistent. As for the comment about rr. I disagree. Remote resis also help dissipate the heat build up on corrugations which I am living on unpaved mountain roads and traveling to large sand deserts. I would like the reservoirs even if I don’t need huge travel

Ive heard this too. Worried about using a longer than advises shock though and ripping the mounts off. Anyone in the area who can direct me I’d love the help but asking a mechanic to flex out my leafs to figure out my cycle is not in the wheelhouse of most Philadelphia mechanics

You read my "comment" or rather my suggestion wrong.

I already know what benefits a reservoir provides.

My specific reason for advising against the Fox universal shocks is because they're valved for heavier applications. This has nothing to do with the reservoir itself but more to do with the discs used and the weight of their shock oil.

This is something that you do at home.

    Take apart leaf pack.

Install single leaf on both ends.

Flex rear, collapse rear, flex ends, measure measure measure.

I’m lost and confused at the edge of my budget and been given at least 10 different suggestions. Honesty I take everything I read here with a grain of salt not knowing who has 10 years experience and who has 10 weeks. The most informed people I’ve spoke with are icon and toytech lifts. I don’t have the leaf pack in hand. Maybe I can contact deaver who designed it to find out its limits. Even then I don’t know what to do with that information

The best experience will come from those that are actual owners and work on their own trucks.

@Speedytech7 did a rear shock relocation on his own truck, and went through the process of measuring out the length shock needed for his custom setup.

If you listen, its easy to tell who has experience from those that just yell out parts brands.

    Ok that just sucks.

lol! Driveway is a luxury we don’t have around here. Maybe an underpass. I’m also recovering from my second hip surgery. I do what I can on the light to medium duty stuff but I have to farm out the heavy lifting these days

I’m not against the rear shock relocation if it can be done reasonably locally and properly. I’m not confident that it can given the time and cost involved. I have the money for the hardware. The labor can get crazy if you can’t do it yourself
