What Have You Done To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Does your tent mount directly to your load bars? Or do you need any spacers or make any modifications to it? I've noticed my UpTOP sits so close to my roof that the clamps hit will hit my roof. I was only planning on temporarily mounting it to my roof rack until i get my truss, but would be nice for the time being.

 

Pretty sure someone used my version, though I knew it wasn't Groucho. Could have been Hawkeye Pierce (Alan Alda, MASH) doing HIS Groucho. Meh, too lazy to research it. Just giving props to the master.

Bought a camera and took a few pictures of Tacoma.

 

The harness that was provided to me was completely PnP. I think the biggest issue for KJTO was taking too many orders and therefore was not able to fulfill in a timely fashion. I did not have any issues with the product that I purchased or correspondence with her. There are other quality products out there though.

 

mine works on my 2017

 

It mounts directly. I have a prinsu rack tho. The Yakima bracket is half inch below the load bars. Even towards the center of the rood. I think my clearance is about .75.


Do you mind measuring the uptop clearance towards the center... I ask coz I may switch to uptop that’s why.

 

I can take measurements when I'm off work. i posted these pics a while back. It can give you an idea.

I will admit I wasn't fully committed to mounting it and was in a time crunch and just said screw it after the initial failed attempt. Haven't tried again. Maybe i will today.

 

Meso TRD Stop/Start button install:

Just got through installing the Meso stop/start button. Most of you are thinking "WTF...no big deal, why post that?" It's a neat little mod but my (personal) issue is this...why does it take me three times as long to install something on my Tacoma as the instructions or videos depict? The guy in the Meso video did it in under a minute. Another video (a young lady) did it in about 2 minutes. It took me over 5 minutes just to get the chrome ring and original button out as it didn't want to let go. Same thing when I installed the Subaru "Kicker" tweeters. One TW member said he did the removal/install in about 20 minutes. It took me over 20 minutes just to get the windshield panel covers off and another 5 minutes to get those damn clips to release from the speakers...overall, about an hour and a half to complete the install. Not going to admit how long it took to install the 4 Kicker speakers in the doors! The easiest install so far has been the bed mat. I did do that in under a minute. I guess its just old age.....

 

just do it. I’m honest when I say it was easy. I didn’t drop the bumper and I did t unboltvthe headlight. The hidden screw I was able to get a small thin Phillips in by prying the bumper a bit to expose it. And I did it in the winter. Summer and heat on the bumper would make it even easier.

Not saying every interaction she had with people was bad, or that she’s a bad person. I just didn’t enjoy dealing with her, and wouldn’t recommend her product.

Maintenance over the weekend. Lubed the uniballs, greased the bushings, oil change and installed the ecgs bushing

 

I’ve got the Bravo and eX, and am also mounting an RTT. I got the Front Runner quick release mount, and it looks like I’ll need to drill into it to make it work for the upTOP. I also got the Prinsu RTT mount as a backup.. it does look like it’ll be a pain getting the tent mounted, as it’s a pretty tight spot.

 

I have no plans for a slider in my Tijuana Taco, but if you could provide more pics and build notes/recollections on it please that will be very interesting.
