Installed dual USB charging port for the rear passengers in my 2016. Simple install but routing the wire to the center console port was slightly challenging. It’s the little things!

Pretty dark pic, looks like one port.
Is it just charging or can you access music?

How’d you splice it in to the front port?

Sorry for the pic quality. Centered the assembly 3” inches below top of panel. It’s 1 assembly with 2 USB charging only ports. Connected the ground wire to a 10mm bolt securing a metal bracket located beneath the cup holders and spliced the USB power wire to the yellow wire on the cigarette lighter socket inside the console.

I did pretty much the same thing as part of my radio install project. Since I had to take the console out to install the radio, it was easy to run the wire all the way back. These are always powered because I ran the wire to the fuse block I installed under the hood. Great for when the grand kids are going to be traveling with us later this summer.

I did one on my son's Second Gen Tacoma, but there is room between the cup holders on those consoles. Still and easy job.

OR you could have done this, and the 400 watt always on mod 110V and 2-3.1amp usb BUT power is power , all depends what you need.

I am going to be installing my own shortly (similar to the OP's) and I'm wondering if anyone has a good/better photo of the inside of the armrest console, the backside where the hole will be drilled. Just curious how much room there is in there for positioning. Also, my 2020 has 2 usb power sockets inside the armrest console and am planning to just tap their power supply. I already had that console out a few weeks ago for another project tapping the park sensor wire and didn't even think to look at that while I had it out.

I think that there is on in the "Clean VHF/CB Install" thread here. There is a fair amount of space to do the install. At the top, you just want to be clear of the cup holder. At the bottom, you want to be clear of the heater/console mount bracket.

In my case, I want always on power for those outlets, so I ran the power wire all the way to the fuse block I mounted near the battery.

Speaking of tapping wires, I'm still looking for a good place to tap into the instrument/dash switch illumination wires. My scanner offers auto dimming triggered by the parking light switch and I'd like to take advantage of that.

Thanks, that pretty much answers my question about it. I installed footwell lighting for the front and just used an add-a-fuse (or whatever they're called) and it rides on the inside fuse box 5a "Panel" fuse so they only come on when the dash lights/headlights come on. Works pretty well, the ground bolt that holds the fuse box (next to driver's left leg) work well to ground it. Maybe that's helpful?

The Panel Fuse will work. I'll just have to find it and figure out how to tap into it. The scanner wire is fused, so I won't need an additional one. Since it's merely a sense wire, the current draw is nil.

Do you remember what brand you used? I take it that it fit under the cover with no problem?

    Thanks.

I just bought them on Amazon ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01BU59QA8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ), You won't get the original cover back on using these, but I think I saw someone one here (MESO maybe?) makes a 3d printed one to accommodate those if you really need a cover back on. For my part, I just dunked the cover in the bottom of my armrest console and don't really care if the fuse block is covered or not. If/when I sell the truck, I can pull them and snap it back on like it was.

Those are the exact ones I bought on Amazon. I also ordered the cover linked to here on Ebay.

I can vouch for them, they work great. Good luck with your project.
