Speakers without taking lots of room

I want to find the a setup that will sound great in my 05 access cab, but not take up a ton of room.
i don't want to have to be moving them around alot. I just a good range of sound i am a huge fan of alot of bass but i like a balance. so i'm open to any suggestions as far as a component system or power subs. I have the factory head unit right now so if anyone could recommend one of those to that would be greatly appreciated.

Try looking back through the this section of the forum, there's many examples. The best one I saw was where a guy created a box that fits in the middle of the rear seat's foot area. It left the ability for two people to still be seated.

My only worry with your design is that it looks like it doesn't account for speaker excursion - the cone could be slapping against the floor.

Provided you put in a few legs for gapping, recessed the speaker, or flipped it to fire in a different direction, it would be a very good design.

EDIT: I do see where you did recess it to some extent. For other readers, be aware of this issue when designing. Those with more experience know a general rule of thumb for spacing?

 

I understand your concern. One corner is raised about 3/4", to get it even with the storage door-level. Yes I did recess the speaker, might change that piece of particle board so the speaker can be furthur recessed, but I haven't noticed any sub-slapping excursions. overall even if the speaker were touching the floor, the gasket is almost 1/2" think, that's a lot of excursion.

 

Depending on what you are talking about, there's the one I was talking about earlier, plus I think there's two versions of the JL stealthbox.

Version 1 (not sure if they make it or I dreamed it) is much like the one I linked before, which ends up with some of it being an 'armrest'

Version 2 is what lsocoee is referring to. JL removed the rear plastic of the center console and inserted a sub with a baffle. The downfall is that you lose your center console storage; but you get a sizeable sub with no other space problems.

Oh almost forgot, don't forget about room for amps. If you have the opportunity, I would recommend taking a look at Alpine PDX series, Memphis S-Class, or similar style.
