Serpentine Belt and Hose Replacement

    My 2008 Tacoma has its original belts and hoses. Although they don't feel rigid or brittle, they are still 12 years old. Should I swap them out as preventative maintenance or keep until they "feel" like they need to be replaced.

    ...asking for a friend.

    CBI bed rack and sliders, Backwoods Adventure Mods front and rear bumpers, etc. And some stickers.
    That's a pretty long time. Any cracks or missing spots in the belt ridges? I would probably do it. IIRC, the tensioner on the 4.0 takes some work to get to, but you may not need to do that.

    Swap the belt. Hoses are probably good to go if hey still feel supple.

    I would recommend changing the belt.
    I removed the front skid plate. The tensioner was easy to access once it was removed.

    Look at and feel the hoses. They should not be swollen or have soft spots.
    You need to physical squeeze them, it should be fairly obvious if you feel a soft spot.

    I still have the OEM hoses on my 07’.
    I figure I’ll change when they show signs of needing it, or a cooling system component fails. Like the water pump or radiator.

    This ^ its easy to do also.And KEEP the old belt in the truck for back up.

    I've never changed a hose on a Toyota due to degradation. It's always because of damage or fluid contamination (oil, or ice etc)

    Change the belt, its not that bad, and its good to have a spare as mentioned.

    Agreed, if the belt doe break it can damage other things inside the bay.

    Mods are currently being changed .....
    I have an ‘08 and just did this a couple months ago. It’s much more quiet. Do the pulleys too. Both will honestly take under an hour.

    Still on stock hoses on a purchase date of November 2004 TRD Sport. I’ve changed the belt a few times but not hoses or pulleys. Have new ones laying around JIC. I’m hoping I get a tiny hole in my radiator so I can change them all out at the same time. Thermostat as well.

    You're well overdue on the belt. I still have a hard time wrapping my head around it but my mechanic does not recommend changing my 13 year old hoses. I'm going to trust him on it.

    I’ve had mechanics tell me the same.....doesn’t make sense but they all tell me the factory hoses are the absolute best and not to touch them.

    The truck is 12 years old. Change the hoses while you do the belt. It's cheap insurance. Just did this on a 4.7 V8 4Runner.

    My coworker has an '08. We were talking about maintenance the other day and I asked him about his serpentine belt.

    He said..."nope, never replaced it. Guess I should at some point".

    Now wait for it.............his rig has 310k miles on it. I'm at 75k. Think I'll hold off until about 100k......with no worries. o_O
