Seller never said anything about having remote start on my 17 DCLB Sport. Imagine my surprise that indeed my truck has remote start after hitting the remote 3x.

Thanks, must be it, mine is a 2017. Imagine my surprise when I pressed and held the lock button for no apparent reason and the truck started

Yours would be aftermarket as it wasn't available till 2020 from the Factory.

It operates exactly as the 2020's ( 3 presses) and the previous owner was unaware of it's existence. weird

From what I've seen on remote start if it's the plug and play aftermarket you dont need to pay for that function yearly but if it's already factory installed you will pay to keep that feature just like you do for say the SOS or the wi-fi on your entune 3.0. could be wrong?

Nothing weird, you probably have the "Tacomabeast" remote start installed, it's a plug and play system and uses the Factory smart key with 3 presses.
