I have a 07’ 4banger. I live in FL and we just started hurricane season and it’s going to flood. I want to put a 3” suspension lift on my taco. Some have advised against it but I don’t know why. Do you? I also want to have a negative offset on the tires (have them stick out slightly past the wheel well). Should I do it? What brands do you recommend? I won’t be off-roading and as you know FL is flat as a Pancake.

    Thank you!

It's 5 lug? Honestly... Don't bother. Your 3" lift will put you at about stock 6 lug height.

If your worried about flooding, with a 5 lug, just reroute the air intake

    My opinion is:

There are only two reasons to install a lift, to install taller tires to get more ground clearance, and LOOKS. You state your not going to be off-roading so your not worried about ground clearance, so that only leaves LOOKS. If you want the look of a lifted truck then go for it. But parts will wear out at a much greater rate with a lift vs no lift. All the engineering calculations are done for the dimensions of a stock truck.

As far as the tires go why do you want them to stick out, LOOKS? if you want the look then once again go for it, but the parts wearing out is the same problem here it moves forces around that it was not designed for, plus it throws shit down the side of your truck all the time.

Lift it up, mod it out, enjoy the hell out of it, but it will not last as long as stock.............

It's a 5 lug... So really, no lift available. Otherwise, your right, I agree! If you want to mod anything, by all means mod away!!!!

Thank you guys . That’s what I needed to know. I do want to clear the water, but yes I just like the look of the the offset tires. I certainly prefer longevity over looks so I think I’ll just leave it alone.

Lol, my previous post considered... I guess I have to eat a little crow. In 1988 I bought a brand new Broncro II for I think something like $10,000. After I bought it, I found out it 'couldnt be lifted'. There were no lifts available. I wanted it on 35's! On November 21, 1988 we took it apart in the shop. Mocked up the suspension, pulled all the factory rivets out, suspended the frame 13" above the suspension, dropped plumb lines, built lift brackets, had springs made, countless hours of work.... after spending almost as much as I bought the truck for.... the day before Mardi Gras 1989 it rolled out the shop on 35's.

So, you CAN lift anything...... And I support that, but... Is it worth it?

Wear on suspension parts faster, lower gas mileage, can actually lower resale value

Sure it looks good, but these were the reasons I haven’t lifted my truck, but boy have I had the urge to do so over the years but practicality prevented me from doing so.

I don’t go off-roading either. Since owning my truck with 26 miles in it, it’s gone off-roading 1 time and that was to cross a grassy median on the highway.

I like it, I know many members here hate body lifts, slap on a 1-3” body and you’re golden...especially if you don’t ever plan on wheeling.

My brother bought an 88 Bronco II with a manual. It was so underpowered he had to go to lo range to get it started on a hill. That was with TINY tires. I can't imagine how weak it would be on 35's
