Installing OEM Keyless Entry

I don't recall if it did or didn't....sorry. It's been a bit since I did this. Anyone who's done it recently want to chime in?

Thanks for the write up. Did anyone having the problem of the driver's door only unlocking, ie none of the other doors unlock? My IC1 connector had an existing splice with a green wire, I cut and crimped on the harness side of this splice. Everything else works fine.

 

I'm thinking about doing this mod. I've read some people say the OEM kit key FOB distance to work is not very far, have you tested how far away you can be to operate the remote key entry?

 

You probably tried this, but did you press the unlock button twice to unlock all doors per the instructions (the same way most remotes work)? I'm considering doing this mod, and just read the instructions for my 2019:

Yes, unlock button twice does nothing. Checked and rechecked wiring, may be something in the harness or module, very frustrating. Or maybe I just screwed something up

 

You might have a poor tap connection. Look at your installation instructions, this table and figure might help. Pins 5 & 6 on your keyless entry module connector C-1 go to the connector IC2 wires to 4 & 10 you T-Tapped to, these should be what unlock the passanger doors after two clicks of the unlock button. If you have a voltmeter you can do the tests shown in the table, note that the operation is momentary (on DC voltage scale, voltage should drop from 12V+ toward 0V momentarily when the key fob unlock is pressed twice as measured from t each connector pin to ground):

 

I installed this tonight. Instructions and pictures helped a ton. When I hit unlock 1 time, I hear some clicking in the dash, lights flash, and horn honks, but driver's door does not unlock. If I hit it a second time, both doors unlock. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Disregard. I figured it out. I cut the thick black wire instead of the thin black wire on IC1. Corrected that and it works.

 

Great write-up with photo's, your post helped a lot as an addition to the instructions. I installed mine this weekend and everything works as designed, FOBs were already programmed and both work. I got my
00016-32912 kit from ebay for $99.99 shipped, all parts were new and in good order:

I used the instructions from Sparks Toyota for the 2019, though I also have a copy of the 2016 instructions and both are basically the same instructions with a few edits. Here's the 2019 instructions:

FYI, a lot of folks with SR's wanted keyless entry, so Southeast Toyota Distributors came up with this aftermarket dealer install kit (Southeast has several other upgrade kits available). It's not the same as the OEM keyless, but it works really well, I can even lock and unlock my truck outside when I'm in the house.

This was a tough job in the summer heat, if you can find shade to do it you will be better off. I did it over two cooler mornings without shade. My comments and suggestions about this mod:
1. Follow the instructions and @motofish84 guidance carefully. For my kick panel my T-taps kind of stuck out to the side and had to push the wiring in to install the kick panel, look at motofish84 picture of how he wired this with the wiring looped down and then back up to the T-taps, this will keep the wiring out of the way, that's the way to do it.
2. I really don't like T-taps, I could have used the positaps I have on hand, but the harness already has the spade lugs made to slide into the T-taps so I went with them. As the instructions state, make sure there is no tension on the wires and T-taps. (see 1 above).
3. Removing and re-installing the lower steering wheel cover, if you push in at the back of the cover on each side, it will come off/go on easier (there's a tab on each side back there).
4. If you mount the controller the way the instructions show, the connector will be in back and you cant see it, so putting the harness connector on it was about impossible for me, I pulled it back off, installed the connector first, and then re-installed. So connect your harness connector to the controller before mounting if you have it in the back.
5. IMPORTANT: with wiring routed and connected, reconnect your battery and test your unit before re-installing your covers as OP suggested, if there are any problems you want to find out now! If things work, the moment you connect your battery your horn will blow in cycles, at least mine did (panic alarm), simply push the panic button one time on your remote and it will stop.
6. Re-installing the lower dash panel, I pushed in the top part to seat the clips first, getting the lower part to seat in the clips was a little more difficult. I would suggest seeing if installing the lower part first to engage the clips and then the top part is a better way, I think it will be.
7. Hardest part of the job, using pliars to hold that hood release cable wire and trying to reinsert the barrel into the lever slot, having to bend to wire far around to get it to fit. I was about to go get some channel locks when I thought of a better way:
* Make sure hood is still unlatched
* At the rear of the white plastic guide, there is a slotted round cylinder the cable fits into. Pull at the back on the cable (not the wire, the cable the wire is in) far enough back to clear the cylinder, then slide the cable to the left out the slot so that the cable and wire are completely free of the white plastic.
* You can then pull the cable toward you as far as you need to easily get slack in the wire, connect the barrel on the end of the wire to its round slot on the black lever, no pliers needed.
* at the back of the white guide assembly, pull the whole cable back as far as you need, then slide it to the right into the slot and cylinder.
* Doing it this way took me less than a minute.

That wraps it up. Below are a few pictures showing the connector ID's before disconnecting. Oh, and if you reference the instructions for connector wire colors, note that as stated the connector images in the instructions are as viewed from the connector side, not the wire side.

I do not know for sure, but does the SR not have Intermittent Wipers? If no, is there a kit for that.

Looking at the detailed spec sheet for 2020 Tacoma’s all trims comes with Intermittent wipers, unless you get the SR Access cab Utility Package (No back seats, more storage capacity) which deletes Intermittent wipers. And yes there’s an easy mod for that I installed it on my 2019 SR utility package:

Hello Guys,
I installed that and nothing, nothing work, everything in car work, but I touch the fob and nothing work. Unlock , lock panic nothing work

 

If you installed that Toggle switch, make sure it's in the off position. Other than that, check every wire to make sure you have it wired right, and also there is a troubleshooting chart in the instructions.
