As I was the first to response, I’ll say it again asking a guy with a 2020 bed if it is messed up is useless. Look in the 2nd gens forum.

I’m not blaming you, but all the treads similar in nature to your question have been done sooooo many times people can not find real information or reasoning as to why products are actually created and long time users get tired of posting same information on the weekly.

Here’s one of many threads that have been flooded out. Scroll down to see for yourself.

The beds were designed for weight IN them not On them, which people are doing with a cap and a spare tire mounted above.

Please don’t create a thread asking if ECGS bearing is really needed. It’s been done too.

Damn! Yeah pretty sure he would of benefited from some kind of stiffener!

Finally a pic! Looks like the bed stiffeners made no difference at all here.

Yeah and I ignored you but you're a persistent wannabe moderator aren't you! No one here is impressed now run along & tell someone else what to do.
    Oh BTW...
    Just for you!

Yeah, I understand the question of "do these things actually do anything and are they necessary?" to be honest I'd say its clearly debatable and there hasn't been a whole lot of science behind any of it. Might just be another gimmick that guys are getting suckered into spending their money on. I bought some just cause it was a cheap mod that was easy and fun to install and as everyone else has said a million times over the extra tie downs/cb/flag mounts are really nice to have and I figured it probably can't hurt. I don't even have extra weight on my bed.

The concept behind them is pretty basic mechanical engineering, so I'm sure they actually do stiffen things up.

Whether or not they're needed or not is so dependent on how the vehicle is used, where it drives, who is driving it, that we'll _never_ get a real answer figured out on a site like this; there are just too many uncontrolled variables.

If I had a 3rd gen, and I had a cap/bed rack/RTT, and I offroaded it, I would have them. Otherwise, probably not. The bedsides are clearly strong enough for normal things, but supporting a few hundred pounds of load on top of the bed rails and pushing about is not a normal thing.

Maybe there's not a lot of pics because of all the bed stiffiners in use?

My roof rack is rated for 500lbs. Would I put that much up there? No. I do use it as an observation platform frequently and I do carry plenty of stuff. When driving offroad side to side motion is pretty significant. Do I need the extra clamps, bed bars, or stiffeners? Better to have and not need than need and not have. I could have just as easily spent the money on an idiotic fake Pro grill that definitely won't keep my bedsides from spreading.

The bungee is for extra bed stiffening.....

    None
Friend of mine had the same issues a couple years later after he installed a ladder rack system on the top of his gen2 taco. Appeared the weight from this, and what was carried above the bed rails eventually caused the bed to bow.

This is the bad side, could almost fit my hand in to the bed from between the tail light and tailgate. Had the crack welded twice. Before it was welded it made this horrible squeak over any bump
