I don't know much when it comes to exhaust systems. I have an 03 taco with a completely stock exhaust system and what a deeper better sound but nothing too loud and annoying. Also don't want to spend a fortune. Any suggestions?

    Welcome !!

Hard to say What might sound great to you or not the 4 cylinder engines sound very poor with a louder exhaust.

The only benefit you will get is noise and attract unwanted attention

Leave it stock and be done. Then maybe you could keep buying mufflers till you find one you like

Videos of exhausts seldom sound like the real thing

Find members close to you and go for a ride about the only way to get a good idea .

Best bet is to try and find someone local with your same truck and the exhaust you're after. Then go *in person* to listen to it. It's hard, even with a video, to get what it really sounds like.

It's a highly personal thing. What one bro likes, another bro will hate, and what might sound good on video, may sounds like shit as you're driving down the highway.

I definitely prefer stock, unless you're doing some power adders (and exhaust doesn't count, lol)

On my old 4Runner I had basically a motorhome muffler. Had glass packs for a short while, but those things just sounded like absolute shit. It also had a cat back 2.5" and a turbo. That sounded pretty good, actually.

In the end, I dunno, Magnaflo?

show up to a Tacoma mod day or meet up. I wouldn't buy anything unless you heard it in person first. I'd say stay away from flowmaster (hated it on my 2nd gen) and Gibson is pretty solid (on my 3rd gen).

Dual exhaust sounds nice but definitely more expensive,

I’ve read through many threads debating exhaust systems.

Much lime Jbrandt already wrote, it is all subjective. One persons loud is someone else’s idea of perfect and vice versa.

For a “middle of the road” option it seems Magnaflow and Borla are frequently suggested.

Personally, I’m hoping to catch a Magnaflow on sale sometime.
