So I am thankful for the help but I have noticed that for every 2 positive comments there is a striking negative one. I actually don’t appreciate the pessimism and I will not respond to it going forward.

Thank you again for all the help.

How do you plan on handling YouTube if you can’t handle a forum?

A 66.66666% positive response rate is honestly a killer ratio for TW and likely the entire YouTube discourse network, bud.

Good luck with your internet channel about...kids and guns and dancing (or was it singing?) and “overlanding.“ My gremlins and I are into all that stuff too, but we’re too boring and poor to make anything worth sharing.

It really is a question of purpose and candidly I am having a difficult time articulating and identifying what all I need in a “overlander” as of today.

I love my long-bed, it’s high clearance and it’s narrow stance but again at times I long for the robust rigidity of the solid front axel as well as the increased towing and capacity of a larger vehicle.

How about this... preparing a gen 3 long bed TRD off road for long off-road overlanding trips, (with 3 to 5 folks) what choices have you made in hind-site that have really helped or hurt... budget being less of a concern initially?

a lot of channels do what youre talking about, down2mob, litebrite, epicfamilyroadtripwtver, trailrecon, a channel I really follow is Matt Offroading and recovery not a overlanding guy but does a lot of offroading, what I can pinpoint to success for the good channels are theyre just themselves tbh they dont fake it my fave channels are Matt Offroading and Recovery and Trailrecon granted theyre not really family roadtrippers, but I love ther channels and theyre successfull, one channel ik does it is EpicFamilyRoadtrip now theyve been doing it for years and tbh imo they dont have that much of a following and i dont get it theyre vids are too notch, but A LOT of channels have the whole overlanding offroad living in a camper thingy, think if you do do it and fail that youll be okay financially

You don’t “need” anything in an overlander other than a full tank of gas, some provisions and a willingness to go..

Fitting more than two people comfortably. Need full size. Towing more than 6K. Need a full size. Handling the gear, or in my case, tools, need a full size. I put close to 100K on the Tacoma. Found I needed a full size. Gave up the nimbleness and got capability.

Trail recon! I’ve been subscribed too when it was less than 5k subscribers. He has good stuff. Down2mob as well. I think I watched his first couple of videos right after he posted them, but soon subscribed to him as well. Last line of defense is a great Tacoma overland guy as well.

I would at least get a refrigerator, unless you plan on traveling for ice constantly.

    ...stuff
you don’t “need” anything but if you “want” the likes you gotta have the check boxes covered: RTT, patches on the headliner, led lights everywhere, etc...

Survivor man-style overlanding would Be something I’d watch. No spare tire; make patches from animal carcasses and plugs from lugs you cut off your other tires. No jack; leverage it up using felled trees and bushcraft shit. No iPads; make your children forage and your wife hunt with a spear (again: bush craft). No tent. Make your shelter according to the local tribes. No maps and no water. Three matches. I could go on.

now that i think about it the successfull channels didnt do it for the money or fame Matt Offroading is a business owner who literally started filing off his iphone and in videos would apologize for his crappy vids(in reality it was what made people stay cus he was real), trailrecon samething just started filming hes talked about it how he had a great job and loved overlanding and i think he does it fulltime now, lastlineofdefense accidently became an overlanding channel he was just a gun guy lol

You could say that I’ve got a “fair amount” of money into my Tacoma and no I wouldn’t change it (despite my above advice). That said in the future, say in 10 years I plan on moving from the Tacoma to a 1Ton with a truck camper and towing a Jeep (or a BRONCO!) more comfort and more capability. I’ve found that most places I Overland I could go with a full size, and the more exotic destinations like Moab or SW Colorado would be better served with a more dedicated trail rig. Idk if there is a perfect solution honestly. Just make the best choice for where you’ll be going.

The problem with the Taco is it’s so freaking easy to exceed GVWR, like I’m well over it... not recommended but it does work.

Don’t forget about Venture4WD BY FAR my favorite YouTuber because as you said he’s AUTHENTIC!!!!!! I can’t stand EpicFamilyRoadTrip and I DESPISE Expedition Overland, it seems the more commercial channels get (FUCKING PRODUCT PLACEMENTS) the less I can stand it. It’s fun to watch normal people, kinda the point of YouTube IMHO.
